Consumer Reports hates American made (read GM, F#$%, and DamnChrysler), especially Corvettes.

Then again, Corvette owners are a picky crowd and take their cars back to the dealer for lots of things.

In the most reliable group all but one are rice burners. At least they put the 911 and Ferd Rusted-Dang in the the same group with the vette:L.

M-B - what's not to hate there!
:rotfl

Last year, a friend sold his '99 Vette and bought an M-B 320CLK. Bad move. The first 6 months, it spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. He dumped it and now drives a newer Vette.

Haha. I bet he doesn't try that again. I landed in a VW web site once and it was loaded with bad stuff about the VW. The pisant had the most intersting reads:L.

I am surprised that there are no Beamers listed. May be they gave the M.B.s a bad rating because of the Chrysler connection;shrug .

We may like our Vettes, but they've never been the most reliable car in the world. Dead battery syndrone, crank bolt, roof separation, rear end chatter, etc, etc are a lot of shortcomings for one model.

It would be helpful to know what the test requirements consisited of...i.e.:confused

* Best interior room for groceries, excluding a SUV

* Quickest vehicle entry and exit while holding a child

* Best rear door child proof lock access from the driver seat position

* Highest rated sound system capable of entertaining back seat children

* Easiest vehicle to be cleaned by an automatic car wash

* Largest rear entry tailgate/trunk with height clearance for loading bicycles

* Best folding seat configration for loading picnic baskets and lawn chairs

* Highest quality of roof rack locks for holding luggage down while traveling

* Overall best paint and color choices in the "new" pastel pinstriped design

* Easiest seat belt buckle access for locking in child protective seat gear

* Largest list of optional plastic equipment that is easy to clean

I see this as just a short list of items that the judging was probably based on to make the "most reliable" list exist...

Anyone know of any other items that were considered for best all around vehicle??

I know I did not buy this '07 Coupe for any of these reasons, hence the postion of the "least reliable " list for the Corvette :_rock

I'm not sure what the other items that were considered by Consumer Reports to rate these cars.... but I'm sure it wasn't for your reasons that you bought yours..i.e. carrying a set of golf clubs and a free sample of Viagra....

if a CORVETTE is least reliable, how come its been around since 1953 and constantly being produced ? foreign cars have problems just as much as americans.

Hotwing;
Several decades ago I purchase several house appliances based on Consumer Reports ratings. It may have been a fluke but each item had many continuous reliability problems and were replaced with appliances I chose myself and I had almost no problems with the replacements. Needless to say I cancelled my subscription.
I finally bought my first vette - 2006 Z51 rag top and had problems adjusting to it. It seemed to me the vette was a little rough, kinda noisy, sorta cheap looking interior and poor paint finish quality. Before you guys hire a hit man please read further.
I spent more than 40 years buying clunker or antique pick up trucks and cars which I restored and/or refurbished and sold to pay for my hobby and to buy my tools and equipment. My current stable includes a 1934 Plymouth coupe, 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 4X4, 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually diesel 4X4, 2006 Chryseler SRT 8, and the vette. Therefore the problem of adjusting to the vette. My vette seemed a little rough riding, chep looking interior, and poor paint finish with a lot of orange peel. It took a while but it finally clicked that the vette is a car that is in it's own unique nitche. I do not think it can be compared to other cars out there because of it's uniqueness. GM builds the vette with a budget that is far less than other sports cars and that makes the car affordable. I personally think they did a good job of it and as I get more miles on the car I find I like it more than the last time I drove it. The vette has "personality" and most of the other cars are grocery getting boring to drive. Not everyone out there will like the vette for the same reasons most vette owners don't care for the other makes. Thank god America has not been totally sold out and we are all forced to drive grocery getters. Each of my vehicles has a nitche to fill and the vette fills it's nitche very nicely. If Consumer Reports has a low opinion of the car then so be it - I bought my vette based on my opinion and that is what is important to me. You know your opinion of your vette and that is what's important to you.
Happy "Vetteing"

Thanks Huey,
I was surprised to see the Consumer Report article myself. I find it funny that the Corvette can be Sports car of the year...one year, and than be an unreliable one the next year. I was very happy with my new 1966 coupe, my new 1969 vert, and my used 2000 coupe, and my present 2004 coupe.

Great post Huey..

You and I have a lot in common. Screw what CR says.

For the last 10 years, CR has been slamming Dodge in the Heavy Duty pickup category. I have owned 3 Ram 3500's with the Cummins. My first was in 1996. I traded a Chevy crew cab with the 454 for it. Up until that time I was a big fan of the Chevy, loved the ride and power of their trucks. Nevertheless, my '94 was a real gutless piece of crap. The last straw was when I took a trip to California to pick up my stallion and bring him home. I was out in AZ pulling a grade with an empty 3-horse trailer. Had the AC off and the tranny out of OD. Truck wouldn't pull the grade any faster than 45 MPH or it would start to overheat. About halfway up the grade I saw a Silver Dodge 3500 with a very large trailer in tow when it started the climb. He caught me before I reached the top. The truck was full of people and they were waving as they went by. Every inch of the trailer had a horse in it. I was P.O.ed:mad. I had my first Dodge within two weeks after that trip and I have never looked back. My '03 3500 does an outstanding job. The truck itself is really nice. The only problem I have ever had was just this past Sept when the AC went out. Turns out something hit the AC condenser and punched a hole in it allowing the Freon to leak out. DC fixed the problem.

Yes, the vette serves my niche/itch. See my post (Z06 Vs Beamer z4). Yes, there are things on it that could be better. But I am willing to live with the way it is. I really love this car and it is hard to bet the out of the box performance:cool.

IMHO CR can take a hike.

I have had 7 Porsche Carreras and 6 Corvettes and never had a major problem with any of them. I cancelled my subscription to CRs a few years back and somehow have managed just fine without their guidance.

No joke on the absolute dismal quality of VW's. They are very nice cars, and when they work theyre on the money, but they just aint screwed together right, and never once have I been in a VDub dealership where there wasnt some customer in the service dept screaming his lungs out of the fustration of owning and constantly servicing a Volkswagon, myself included.

German engineering yes, German quality, FUBAR
