I removed the dash to redye and damaged both corners. The corners were stuck in the windshield adhesive. Have any forum members had experience with the dash covers being offered in the vet catalogs? Do they look good or is it a half #$@ fix? The dash is in otherwise good repair.
John :cry

Ive never seen one but Ive heard they look good. But if it were mine Id buy a new one.Putting a cover over one is just a band aid.:w

Thanks for your comments paint dady, I actually feel the same but its been an expensive winter I rebuild the engine and am in the process of painting front frame and firewalls and rebuilding the heater & AC. I am considering glueing the corners on and repairing the vinyl with one of those texture repair kits. It seems to me that one or the other corner will most likely break off during the installation process.

Thanks again I will most likely cry a bit more before I order a new dash. O and it just keeps getting better, all but one guage has rust spots on the faces :(

Wow you have had an expensive winter. The repair kit isnt a bad idea but I can never get them to look right ,maybe you can do better. The corners are probably busted from taking it in and out over years. When they built the corvette on the assembly line, that upper dash was installed first,so it wasnt being wedged in to that windsheild ,it was installed from the bottom. On the guages ,I just had some redone for a 74 and a 68.The guy did good work,if you want his #let me know. :beer

John,

My oil gauge had rust spots on its face, so I started looking around where to get a replacement. For the 78, they are hard to find. As a last resort, I did a search on ebay and found one that was still in new delco box. I bid $30 and won it. So when you are ready to replace gauges, ebay might be a good place to get them at a decent price. Hope things go well for you!

Thanks Bill, I had trouble finding the oil guage it was in the worse condition of the lot. the volt meter is on backorder. The fuel guage has been illusive but I think that dr. Rebuild has one. I am a little more worried about being able to get new faces for the speedo and tach. The ebay price is great I wish I could find some deals like that.
Thanks John

I think I spend as much time there as I do hear...:crazy

Thanks I still need a guage or two I give them a try. Seems like the odds would be against finding a specific OEM part.....
John :m

I think you will have good luck finding it on Ebay...:D

I put one of those dash cap covers on my 75. I think it looks good & haven't had any problems with it.

Thank you Bill!!! I was on this morning searching. I must be doing something wrong. This Ebay thing could get addictive. I found a 6 speed manual I may ask santa to put under the tree......... :bu

Looks like there is going to be one more out there that spends as much time on Ebay as they do on this forum.:J

John,

The quickest way of finding a specific item for your vette, goto www.ebaymotors.com, then search "78 corvette" I find more stuff that I "need" that way (Even if I didn't know I needed it before searching) . Ebay is fun. The six speed would be way cool!!!

Bill

Bill I won the gas guage, great deal 19.00 plus a few dollars shipping. I am working on some other goodies at the moment.
Thanks
John
