Car started as normal yesterday, but got in today and nothing. Looked like a good battery. rolled the windows up, lights came on, but no cranking.
Then I seen on this forum about the key's resistor could be dirty and telling the security system to not start. I got the second set of keys and crossed my fingers and she cranked right up.
My question is can I do anything to the key or does it need to be replaced by the dealer?
Thanks for any help, this forum has a bunch of knowledge.

Did you try the original key again? I've heard people say you can try and clean the contacts on the key thoroughly and they may work again, but the chips do occasionally just die.

Good call, I cleaned the key contacts and she started up. Just another trick to keep in the bag for a 10 yr old car.
Thanks

When you turn the ignition key to run, the Security Light will be on for a second and then go out.

If the Security Light stays on, the key pellet isn't being read properly and the starter will not engage.

Could be a dirty or worn key pellet, worn contacts in the ignition cylinder or the wires from the ignition cylinder to the base of the steering column is intermittent. (Every time the ignition cylinder is turned, the wires twist).

Yup, this could crop up again as an intermitant problem. Hope for the best. If it does, and your not at home. Turn the key off, let the car sit for a FULL 5 min. then try again. The newer models security is somewhat updated from the info on the older ones like mine though.
