Well i took a peek through my gas cap lid to see if my build sheet was
there but it wasnt! So is there any way i can get a copy of my dealer invoice
and a build sheet??
Thanxs

Didn't GM put build sheets between the gas tank and the tank straps back then?
I heard that they are stuffed in the frame rails sometimes also.

So guys enlighten me. I bought a 1981 in July. If someone hasn't removed it, I should be able to find the build sheet somewhere around the gas tank?

The only places i have neard of on the C3 is glued to the top of the fuel tank, under a seat or behind the dash panels.

If your '81 was build in the Bowling Green plant, you may be able to get a reproduction build sheet and window sticker from the National Corvette Museum. Go to https://store.corvettemuseum.com/services/buildsheet.asp for more information.

I found the one in my '73 on top of the gas tank when I removed the tank. Due to the way the filler neck cup is configured, I couldnt see it until the tank was lowered. It was really a thrilling experience finding that paper that had been there for 38 years!

Build sheet

For the most part i pry the rubber gasket to 1 side and looked at the top of the tank the
best i could i didnt see it :-( So i am not sure if it worth the time to drop the tank

If you look at your vin tag,you will see a 'B' about half way through it, if you have a 5 behind it, then it's.a bg car if it's an 'S' it's an a St Louis car.

No. The tank and straps were already installed in the frame when the tank sticker was glued on.

Maybe. By 1980, there were several stations along the assembly line where a build sheet could be printed. By that time, they did not necessarily need to have one on the fuel tank.

81 Production at St. Louis. Note build sheet taped to the fuel tank on these three. Yours may or may not be there.

If you have a Bowling Green car, try the NCM. You may be able to get the build sheet for your car.

If you have a St. Louis car, try the Allied-Vaughn folks: Corvette Action Center | Tech Center | Owner Information Center | Build Sheets | Documentation If Allied-Vaughn has your VIN in their database, they will be able to provide a copy of the original dealer invoice. The invoice will list everything on the build sheet, plus it will include prices, address of original dealer, date the car was shipped and expected to be received, etc.

I notice on the picture you have provided ( Thanxs for the pic )it appears they put the sheet in the front of the tank
not on the top! so they still might be a chance the sheet is still there, i have look on the top the best i could have!

There's a large difference in gas tank design between a '69 and an '81. Your tank has no 'front' surface as shown in the pic.

Edit- here's what yours looks like from the top

I said "maybe." Those shown in the pic are only taped in place. It would be a long shot if the tape has lasted all these years. Worth a look for later car owners, but not worth dropping the tank just to check on a "maybe".

Sorry, Ricochett, but the arrangment for earlier cars was different. Tank stickers were never meant to be permanently affixed; they were only for assistance for assembly line workers and were, more or less, useless after body drop. After nearly forty years, the fact that anyone finds one is a minor miracle and finding a legible one is akin to the Holy Grail.
