Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Dear Corvette Gods Or Any Other Know It All!!!!

Ooh! That's a real beauty! If it was a little cheaper then I would probably look more into it, but that Vette is in real nice looking condition (as far as I can see) and not in my price range. :D

You looking to bid for it? Lucky, lucky man. :)

Naaa, I just get a kick out of some of the comments people make selling their cars and thought I'd share it with the rest of you guys...
I know I got a real LT-1, this guy thinks he might have a ZR-1 on his hands...Don't you think you'd wanna know BEFORE you sold it, rather than later? Doh!
But I guess this guy already knows what he's got...
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice car....but a ZR-1??? :Silly

Nice, clean car. Good price.

But let's face it ... there are a lot more LT1's on the road today than were ever built! :D

Yes, I see what you mean, Tony. Couldn't he just figure out if it's a ZR-1 by the VIN? Or no? How would he find that out?

TR

LT-1? If you had a real LT-1 Vette, why would you put the base model hood on the car? Anyone who's got an LT-1 wants that bump on the hood to show along with the LT-1 pinstripe badging.

LT-1 still used the BB hood for the high rise manifold in 1971 so I would say it's not now if it once was. Since there is no dentification in the VIN on a 1971 to document the engine, only the sales sheet or build sheet would truly confirm or deny.

Another one of those RARE cars!! Momma always said "If you can't touch it and feel it don't buy it!"

:w

eBay translations:

Rare = anything older than 1979
Rare = anything that has ANY option available at the time
Rare = no longer original due to mods (i.e., this isn't like the original vette, it's a one-of-a-kind now, thus "Rare")
Rare = I have this one, and you don't have this one. because I have it, because you don't.

ZR1??? Yes, it's a ZR1, just as it is still it's original yellow color.

I don't buy any car without driving it for at least 20-30 minutes minimum, then only after going home and sleeping on what I observed. After 24 hours, if I'm still eager for it, then I buy.

The engine description is either a typo or a bad re-stamp; a '71 LT-1 had a "CGZ" suffix, not "CGS", which was a passenger car 454. If it was a real LT-1, it wouldn't have already passed its reserve at that level. Another eBay dreamer - "could be", "could have been", "I think it's...", "it might be..." :(

I looked at this auction and I think it is stupid for the owner to even get upset he is false advertising that automobile
you cant say LT-1 or ZR-1 and not have the "corvette goods"
asking you all kinds of questions

because a smart buyer educates himself on what he is buying and doesn't take the word of the seller!!

that's just covering your own 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't buy that car from him just because he has attitude about people who know what they are talking about
he obviously doesn't know what he is shoveling!!!

I was thinking, and doing some research...it looks as if the block may be an LT-1 block, but the stamping may indicate its from a different Chevy...maybe a Nova or a Camaro? Any ideas anybody?

Well, he states the stamping is CGS. The Corvette Black Book does not list a CGS for the 71 Vette. The LT1 was CGZ and the ZR1 was CGY. Another source shows the CGS as the base 270 hp engine for the 71 Vette.

I really do like this comment: "bid with confidence because if the winning bidder is not completely happy with purchase upon coming to pick car up you can leave it where it sits & keep your money!!!!

tom...

'71 base engines (350/270hp) were CJL (4-speed) and CGT (early) and CJK (late) for automatics. The CGS code was never used in Corvettes, and was a 1970 454 4-speed passenger car engine.

Thanks John,
You saved me some gas money.

Mike
