Debate: Where to mount tranny temp. sensor?

O.K. so im debating where to mount my tranny temp sensor. Im thinking that I want to know what temp the fluid is comming out of the tranny before it goes into the tranny fluid cooler.

With that said, im going to get a "T" adapter to mount the sensor between the sending line comming out of the tranny to the tranny cooler. This way I will see what the temp is comming out of the tranny.

I personally want to know what the temp is comming out of the tranny before the cooler versus after.

Any opinions?

I mounted mine between the trans cooler and the radiator cooler.. I wanted it hooked up with the cooler line instead of the mounted on the trans pan.. and I'm never took the time to figure out which was the inlet and outlet of the cooler.. but it's in the middle.. and seems to be working great.. I can see when the temp goes up or down like if I'm cruising with the converter locked up.. it cooles off to like 180 or something.. and when I'm hard on it and letting the toque converter stall alot it will heat up a bit.. but I'm happy with it mounted up how it is.. btw I see your in chicago I may have talked to you before but if you need any help with anything let me know...

thanks for the offer, but im pretty far from Downers Grove. I stay 4 miles from Indiana (aka, home of inexpensive gas!).

I belive the top line is the sending line & the lower line is the return line. I have bypassed the radiator cooler and just send it directly to my B&M cooler (I think its like 28000 GVW)...pretty big, but its mounted on the opposide of the air filter housing so it does not get a direct path of air, but in the summer I can put my hand on the cooler and it gets hot to the touch.

Mabey one weekend some of the local Chicago/suburban's can meet up and b/s & talk about our cars.

Hell yes.. we will have to do this.. i better start making a list of people I know online so we can invite them.. in the spring/summer..

TNT, you should know I am almost always wrenching on a vette over the summer here.. Although when I do my clutch and cam this year it will be at a friends.. .he has a lift in his garage

I'll work on putting a list of local people together so we can set something up.. anyway yea I wish i had a lift at home atleast I can go work on the vette at my shop most anytime I need too..

Yeah not much bigger.. I got a deal on a ZZ409 which is:
112 LSA
226/226 Dur @.050
.520/.520 lift

Basically the larger intake lobe, which is what most cam guys were saying anyway

Although I see nothing wrong with what you're planning,
I would personally want the sensor as close to the pan as reasonably
possible that way you know the temp (or close to it) of the fluid that's in the pan.
Going in-line I would make sure it goes in the return line coming from the trans cooler going back to the trans.

Better yet, where does the tranny fluid go to and come from?

Im going to put it in the "to" line leaving the tranny. Seems that is the temp of the fluid that is comming out of the tranny and thats what seems to be critical when it comes to monitoring tranny temp.

I would say the line OUT of the transmission. You want to see how HOT it is getting, not how cooled it is when it comes back.

Agreed! even thouhg I hippocritically mounted mine between the radiator cooler andthe aftermarket hayden one I mounted up.. mine is more for show and atleast gives me some Idea of whats going on..

Where did you get the sensor & "t" connector? I've been looking to rig this up for my tranny.

the sensor came with the autometer tranny temp guage kit.

As far as the fitting goes, I got the parts from home depot.
