After considering the cost of replacing my 1981 stock q-jet carb with an earlier model re-built q-jet without the mixure control selenoid and an hei distributor with vacuum advance and comparing that cost to going with and edelbrock proformace carb and a new proformance distributor I decided that the extra hp and torque was well worth the small difference in cost. This setup should fix the idle surges and gas leakage from the q-jet and give better overall performance. I would guess that the 330 hp that gm gives in their specs will be available with this setup plus, I am installing the k & N air filter also. Anybody get a guess as to the hp after these mods?
