I was poking around under the hood today and i noticed that the little green eye on the battery was black.she is a bit of a ""garage queen"" however i will never let it sit over a week with out driving.it starts right up with no codes on the DIC and the volts read 14 when running. car has 7k on it and its the org battery.should i change it or wait and see???????? :confused

If your car sits for extended periods of time - than get yourself a "battery tendor" (costs run between $35 - $50). Plugs into a 110 outlet and clips to the battery. When the battery drop just below full charge to "tendor" comes on with trickle charge, brings the battery back to full charge, then shuts off untill needed again. Living where I do my car sits for 6 months each winter. The battery tendor has worked fine year over year.

At 3 years and 5 months, my battery in my 03 just plain died - without any warning. It was not a fun experience. My plan now is to treat batteries as regular replacement items like oil filters and replace them every 3 years.

A battery tender is good idea if your car sits for long periods. I don't use one but my cars get driven weekly also.

While running, the volt meter is showing the charger/alternator capability and not necessary the battery's quality. Check the voltage before starting and/or put a volt meter on it without the motor running.

thanks for the input......
i do have a battery tender but i have not used it this year because we only had two snow storms so far in NY and i have been able to drive it at least once a week.with the motor off the DIC reads 11 volts.i assume i should just get a new battery and be done with it.

change it....you are on borrowed time with an OEM battery

I don't think I have ever seen the green eye in any battery, and they still crank it over fine.
