Detonation In A 2000

A FRIEND HAS A DETONATION PROBLEM IN HIS 2000 VETTE. THE GM DEALER SAID IT WAS COMMON IN THAT YEAR. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM? OR IS THE GM DEALER BLOWING SMOKE IN MY FRIENDS FACE? WHAT WAS YOUR CURE?;stupid ;

Hi there,
Common, yes, acceptable, no.
There has been revised computer programming for the PCM, to help with this condition.
Also, there is a top engine cleaning procedure to remove carbon buildup within the combustion chamber.
These should be his first course of action.
What he can do on his own, is add 2 cans of 12345515, to a full tank, and run till its almost empty.
This may assist a little, and soften up some of the buildup.

Wasn't there also a problem with the knock sensor on one bank getting coolant into the sensor, resulting in internal sensor failure on some of the LS1 engine years? I seem to remember reading something about that.

HI Vettepilot,
Yes, there was a TSB for this condition, however, this will accompany a number of codes in the PCM.
Knock, and carbon buildup has been an ongoing issue with C5, and this is covered, if researched by your GM dealership, with technical assistance.
