Ordered, and partially installed the new kit from Dewitt's. Aluminum radiator with integral dual Spal fans, pulse-width modulator controller, HUGE relay, etc. SPO 022, I think.

Early Sunday, I got the harrison setup to the point where I it was just ready to pull out and VNV came over to help. It was REALLY HOT so we just installed the radiator and roughly set up the wiring for me to do next week. Mark, as usual, was a great asset and good friend. My wife made a lunch of pasta with garlic and clam sauce and that was WELL received. Should have it back on the road next weekend. I will post pictures of the event, especuially the "work table" that we had set up.

BTW, the Harrison I removed is #match with all the corrrect tags, just been freshly recored, works very well. Perfect shape, less that 1000 miles. How much do you think it's worth? Not for sale but just wondering.
:m

Yeah.. Lunch was rocken. Pasta and Claims With Garlic...Yummm..!!!

Thank's Lynn...:beer

PS: Just a short note here... I got caught in the Ocean City Mass Exodus . I was stuck in traffic for 15 min. It was around 98* and almost 100 % Hum-Dit-I-Ty.. It was Hot..... I have the same Radiator.... Dewitts BB dual Fan Spall set up. My Motor temp never went oner 180*.!!!!!!
Man ..What a Radiator.......

VERY GOOD to hear about the temperature, sorry about the soccer mom escape from the island...hey, it could have been worse because when i left, i rounded the corner going up the draw bridge at 9th st and the bridge GOT STUCK AGAIN...always happens when the temperature climbs above 90*....so, i was one of the first to turn around and exit off at 34th st and took the LONG way home but i kept moving...

WHAT IS IT WITH THESE DRAWBRIDGES?????? do freakin' boats have the right of way over the intercoastal waterway?????????

uh oh...MAY get banned to the "Lounge" if i'm not careful

...what i MEANT to say was that C2's should have the right of way :Buttslap

Were you having problems with the original set up, What macking you go thru all of this exspence

Answer to your question:

Yes, they do. You should live near a major seaport like I do. You are at the mercy of the waterways.

Answer to your suggestion of C2's having right of way.

I agree.

yep, actually they do...... :)

I wouldn't say that I was having problems with the original setup but I was sure at it's design limit. The system consisted of a standard bb water pump, direct drive fan, original shroud with the "A/C lip" that I added, Harrison radiator (recored) with an overflow tank AND an aftermarket A/C system. I run water/Water Wetter and pump additive because it works well for me...I notice a more prompt drop in temperature, which to me, was meaningful. The Harrison is #match, all the correct tags and it's now boxed and on the shelf.

What I noticed on the last run that I took around the island was that stop-and-go traffic with the air on (NOT in the really bad heat that we have now), the temp went to 210* and stayed there for an uncomfortably long period of time. So, I figured that it was time for the switch since I don't need any more problems. Tom Dewitt must be making a decent living just off of VNV's recommendations. :) I know that's why I went with Tom (and his overall reputation, of course).

Actually, 210* for a bb A/C car in those conditions is not bad. I just want to make sure that I have some overhead in case I get stuck and shutting down the A/C doesn't solve the problem. :eyerole

I don't have a problem with boats just as long as the laws would be reasonable. I think automotive traffic should have the right of way whether the bridge crosses the Intercoastal Waterway or not. Last time I checked, we were in the 21st Century and canvas sail was turned into jeans a LONG time ago. Hmmmmm, let me see, is there an environmental impact difference between 1,500 cars backed up in both directions for 10 minutes and some rich guy idling his twin 454's for 10 minutes? Boats should be able to have the bridges lifted twice a day - at 12:01AM and at 12:11AM.

As a friend of mine is wont to say, "There are two types of boats...subs and targets."

..........;LOL :L

How about an Underwater Tunnel for boats....:L

Ok, here is a crazy cooling method I saw the other day down the shore. Older Chevy, 53 or 54 - nice hot rod. I am checking out the engine compartment and I see windshield washer nozzels in front of the radiator - 4 of them. Me being the analytical accountant I ask, quoting 'VNV", WTF?? The guy tells me it runs hot with the blown 454 so when the temp starts creeping up too much, he hits a switch on the dash an squirts water on the radiator. He says it works great. I say that I guess the small washer bottle must drain fast. He says, oh no - he has it hooked up to a 3 gallon can in the trunk!! Go figure.

Hey Kid, where is the trunk on our 66's?

Cool Steve... I guess we can call that a "Rube Goldberg Cooling System":L

You know, that's a great idea to use squirters. Leave it to a hot rodder. He and I are only about $910 or so apart in our fixes. Sounds reasonable.

Ok, post edit note. Having the SHARP inorganic chemistry background that I have, he'll have a REAL problem with mineral buildup on his radiator because the evaporating water will leave behind the minerals in solution. Unless he's using deionized water (even distilled water won't cut it), he will turn his radiator white and substantially decrease cooling efficiency until he has to buy a new radiator. If he's real old, he shouldn't worry.:D Won't happen in his lifetime.

For the novices, I am posting a picture of the bench setup that IS REQUIRED for me and VNV to install a Dewitt's bb radiator. Newbies....PAY ATTENTION!!!!

Just ordered some "Kuba-Kuba's" and some "Blondi's" from the Cigar shop. I'll bring them over this week end.

Heh Craig...The Blondies...Rock.

Yeah, thanks for the Email about your cigar sampler. OOOPS! Don't want to get MOVED to the LOUNGE AGAIN. I MEANT to say that I appreciated your Email providing a detailed explanation of the date codes for Harrison radiators made on Shrove Tuesday, 1965. I think you should publish this.

For the neophytes, here's the scoop on Shrove Tuesday:

In the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday is the English name for the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which in turn marks the beginning of Lent. In many solidly Roman Catholic countries in Europe and the Americas, this is the last day of Carnival (known as shrovetide in English). In some historically Francophone places it is Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday; the most famous Shrove Tuesday celebration is the Brazilian Carnival.
It is also known as Pancake Day or Pancake Tuesday in Britain, Ireland, and Canada.
The origin of the word shrove lies in the archaic English verb "to shrive" which means to absolve people of their sins. It was common in the Middle Ages for "shriveners" (priests) to hear people's confessions at this time, to prepare them for Lent.

And other then the date code thing, this has 'what' to do with C2's? Oh yeah, thanks for the explaination on the mineral build-up by using water. What about other liquids? Or, even a nitrogen blast. My brain hurts - too hot yesterday when I repaired part of my garage roof. Contractors kept standing me up. Too small a job I guess.

Steve

Nah, the Moderators are EVERYWHERE ;squint: so I don't want to get kicked out of a real forum again. Just keepin' the topic on C2s, keepin' THE MAN happy, that's all.

About that squirter idea for the radiator. Not sure I like it anymore. I would think that the only gas that would really work well would be compressed carbon dioxide (CO2) because when it expands it would also tend to ice up the radiator whereas the other gases will cool on expansion (release at the gas jet) but dissipate immediately under the hood.

On the bright side, if you dragged around a few tankfuls of CO2 for your radiator, you could bleed off some of that to power the BeerMeister in the passenger seat. :cool

Yes, I believe that SOME c2s came from the factory that way. Yes I do.

I still have some real Cubans I brought back from Bermuda. I don't smoke cigars but I was was buying a box for one of my business accounts while I was there so figured since I was risking smuggling them into the country past customs I might as well get a box for myself also.
If I remember i'll bring a couple with me to Carlisle for you guys.

BTW, since I don't smoke cigars and had never bought them before prior to this one time, talk about sticker shock while I was in the cigar shop buying them!
The box I got for my business account was almost $600 and that seemed to only be a "mid-price" selection!
The box I bought for myself was "cheap" at "only" about $350/box!

I snuck the expense of both onto my business expense account though (at the direction of my sales manager) so at that point I didn't care. ;LOL

Heh Barry,

Cool..I'd love to puff a few of those bad boys... Bring a bunch and I'll slip you some buckies...:D

Mark
I just checked on the "stock".
looks like I have 6 of the real Havana's left. They are Romeo Y Julieta "Petit Princes". Like I said I went "cheap" for myself after spending the bigger bucks on my accounr which I got some box of Montecristo if I remember.

I also have a "sample" box of a few different sizes of Dominican Montecristo's that i'll bring. These obviously aren't the real Cubans like the others but what the hey....

Sounds good Barry,
We gona stink up Carlisle...:D

Brought this one back to the top because you need to know the latest from Ocean City, New Jersey, A Great Family Resort.

Remember the story with the stuck drawbridge and the rich guys in their boats filled with dual idling 454's? WELL, just read the Ocean City Sentinel. It seems the Town Fathers are petitioning the Coast Guard to only allow bridge lifts at certain times. SEE....OCNJ Government logs on here and steals my ideas!

Oh, I'm sure the Feds will be REAL sympathetic ;LOL
