Who did the majority of primary Construction on your Garage?

Did you build your garage from scratch?
Or did you pay a Professional to do most of the work?

I did every single bit myself...then again, I am a building contractor...:D

Mine is attached, so it was built with the house; my wife designed the house, I designed the garage - builder did it all (to our drawings and specs).

I had the barn shell and concrete poured by contractors, but am doing the rest myself, an ongoing project :L

Built ours ourselves, with a friend who was a contractor, right from the footing on up. Five months of nights, weekends and vacation days but, frankly, I'm not sure I would do it that way again. :bang Too much hammering...........:D

Hammer...Is that something new? I think I heard about them from my grandfather.

<---best thing since sliced bread;)
Okay, okay, I'll fess up - we really didn't do too much hammering - at 1:30 in the morning the neighbors preferred that we use the screw gun........:L

Nail guns are fun..... except when my wife missed the edge of the sheathing and the nail went flying past my head. After that, I stood behind her... ;)

Nutmeg State?

Paul...its because we are frugal Nutmeggers. ;)

Bet they all want to know what a nutmegger is...:L
I believe Connecticut is also known as the "Nutmeg State" if memory serves me correctly!

I deceided to build it myself...
Framing... Roofing... Drywalling... Electrical... Concrete... Water Lines... Septic... Siding. I was saying the whole time "How hard can it be...."

What I found out is:
Garage Cost = 1/3 Material + 2/3 Labor

If you are shortsighted AND stubborn... Vehicle restoration might be for you!

1800 square feet, two floors (40 x 30), detached. Does not add up because one bay is 20 feet high for lift, so the second floor only covers 2/3rds of first floor. Heated and air conditioned, both floors. Carpentry done by contract, I did all the mechanical including electrical. 250 amp. panel, all outlets 20 amp with 5 - 60 amp 240 amp outlets strategically placed. 10 hp air compressor and 50 2 x 40 watt fluorescent fixtures for lighting, including side walls. Still cost $70K plus. Also have another 36 x 26 two story attached garage (3 bay).

garrage

searched for 5 years to find the house and garrage,3 cars on top floor, directly below 30 feet by 26 feet 12foot high.i don"t get wet when i go to either garrage both attached . :beer

I'm in the process of designing a house. I'll likely have the concrete, framing, roof, and siding done by professionals, and do the mechanical work (plumbing, heat, electrical, etc.) myself. I'm too picky about my mechanicals to put up with someone else's ideas of "the right way." (there's the right way, the wrong way, and my way - and if it's my house, then it's my way)

Did everything myself except the concrete, had a great time doing it, I built the walls up and had some friends help me raise the walls and put the trusses up. Got lucky the vinyl siding matched the top half of my house.

:bang Geesh what a lot of work for a weekender but I know what went into it because there is not a peice of wood that I didn't touch. The only thing that was done by a contractor was the foundation and backfilling, my lot is sloped and to have the entry at street level the back foundation is +/- 14' exposed. Guess a professional was the only way to go with a pour this large and 28 trucks to fill the excavation. No regrets except the height when I do the siding on the back.
