How did they get 20 more HP out of the LS6 after 2001 ?
And besides marketing, why didn't they just start out with 405HP in 2001 ?
Just curious...from a guy who wants a Z06 (whenever I get the house sold).

Ls6 hp

hi ted, its like any yearly hp increase, tweak the cam a little, get a little more air in, open exhaust a little and theres 20 hp. i have a 2003 zo6 and they run real nice not the fastes thing on the road, but they go real good. when you get the money togethe and get a zo6 you will like it very much, just be carfull many of them are run a lot. hope this helps Billy

Signal,
If it helps, the CAC's Knowledgebase and Model Center areas (accessible from the "Tech Center" tab at the top of the screen) have a breakdown of every year Corvette in terms of production number and performance specs. Specifically, I pulled these Specifications pages for each year the C5 Z06 was in production, to provide you with a basis for comparison:

2001
2002
2003
2004

Scroll down the page when it loads, and look at the drivetrain information. That should give you some insights as what the major changes were each year. By far, the biggest change during the C5 Z06 production run was between 2001 and 2002, which saw a pretty significant upgrade in HP introduced.

I am not Hib, but I think it is about 340.

Hey Jim,

Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well. You know this horsepower thing can get real confusing at times. With some people reporting HP @ the rear wheels and other talking about what the motor makes @ the flywheel.

Thanks, Remo.
Let's see...
There is HP at the flywheel,
HP at the wheels,
and my favorite, HP at the wishful thinker. :D

I dynoed at 333 RWHP at Bubba's Dyno in Bowling Green. But my WTHP (wishful thinking HP) is well above 450.

I had mine dyno'd at two different shops, in two different summers, the first year was 357.4, and this year was 355.7... that's close enough for me to say they are the same. Both are SAE corrected. The only difference in the car between the two year was what I was running for tire pressures, the first had 32 psi tire pressure, the second had 30 psi. The only mod that was in both times was a blackwing, with the stock airbridge and stock coupler. This is a great running car!

There are a couple of good articles in the 2001-2004 Z06 Tech center:
Especially this one: 2001 vs 2002 LS6 Comparison

I'm not sure about why they didn't just start with 405 HP in 2001. If they build cars like software, they were probably going with the theory of "build it first, perfect it (or rather, improve it) in release 2" ;)
