The lighting behind the coolant temp/gas milage section of my digital dash has gone dark. I am assuming a new bulb is needed. Having researched the threads and information on digital dash repair, it says I need a Halogen 882 bulb. I am thinking many of you have experience with replacing a burnt bulb and have a couple questions:
> can the bulb be replaced by just removing the front cover of the digital cluster? any tips? sounds easy? (I am not a mechanical expert)
> I have looked at a couple parts vendors for the bulb-- Covette Central sells one (not halogen) and Zip sells one (halogen). Both of these guys do not identify the bulb as an 882 size, just that 4 are used behind that area of the cluster. Am thinking this is the right bulb, but can any of you lead me to the right bulb? Chevy dealer no longer stocks them.

Thanks for any advise. While the bulbs are not hugely expensive, I don't want to waste my money on the wrong thing-- would rather put the money in the tank.

YES it is 882

You can purchae the bulbs from AutoZone, Murrays Discount Auto and many other auto suppliers and even the web.
NO you have to take the unit apart because the bulbs are twist into the PC board. It is easy just take your time. By the way the cheapest price is $8.00 ea,

If you do this yourself...BE CAREFUL. I had a Corvette specialty shop in Indy do my '88 and they cracked the tach and the volt LCD. When I went to pick it up the said "OH...they must have been broken before we did the bulb replacement". Long story short, it ended up that the $50.00 repair cost me around $1200.00 (if I remember correctly) to replace the entire LCD panel. Good luck!
