I guess I'm lucky having this problem. I can't decide on which car to buy. Looking at a 99 t-red 6sp coupe 1 owner 1600mi. I put a refundable deposit on this one. I know this car was pampered. Also looking at an 01 T-red 6sp coupe 2 owner 8000mi , not familar w/ owner on this one. Price is about the same. Can't decide . Low miles or 2 years newer w/more miles. How about some opinions. Thanks Muddywaters

Muddy -

I think I'd opt for the lower mileage car, unless there is some option on the 01 that you really want.

with a 99 it's already 7 years old and with 1600 miles or so thats like 220 miles a year. i would start it up let it get HOT then turn it off and let it sit for 20 mins looking underneath of it for any kind of fluid leaks. unfortunatly with a low milage car most people don't start them up ect as much as they should and the gaskets start to dry out and the car will leak.

Very low mileage cars can have all sorts of issues with them like Mic says.

Water condensation in the gas tank from sitting too much can cause rust to the fuel pumps etc., rust can plug the fuel filter, clogging injectors, etc.

Gaskets leaks and failures.

Take that 99 out for a nice drive and get everything up to operating temps. Then check everything!

Returning a 'museum piece' to the streets can be expensive.

Another consideration as to which year to go with may be whether or not there is any warranty left or available...

99 vs 01

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just looked at the 01 and the 99 is definetly in better condition. I understand the "non-use" issues, but it is a beauty. I'll take my chances. Every vette I owned needed a De-bugging and this 99 was pampered (service, maint.). It is as close to a new one that I'll ever get. Wish me luck. Muddywaters

99 Vette

Just an up-date,(if you care). I'm supposed to pick up the car on Sat., (I hope) . The car is part of an estate, more than one person involved. Executors, Lawyers, you know. Battrery was dead from sitting so long. We threw in a Die-Hard Gold, it fired right up, got to eyeball the oddometer myself, I was told it had 1600mi. on it, it"s acually 6600mi. which isn't bad. Most of the family are not car types and the Vette is a alien, that good for me. Can't remain calm much longer, no lookers on my 88 yet. C Ya. Muddywaters
