I was hoping someone could help. The dash and console lights on
my '74 are constantly dim. I have tried adjusting them by using the light switch and this does not rectify the problem. I'm considering replacing the light switch. Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks, Travis

There is NO change as you twist the knob?

If so, it sounds like your switch broke. There is a little arm attached to the shaft that rubs over the rheostat (sp?) coils... If it breaks loose of the shaft, the arm will be stuck in one position.

yes there is a change the lights will dimm al the way down but when turning to full bright they only go to a dimm state also Does this involve removing the dash to replace the switch Im still in the process of testing my mechanical abilities
thanks Travis

It is possible that there is a short in the coil.
You shouldn't have to remove dash.

I am sure how your knob comes off, but after that there is a big nut on the front of the switch. Take off and the switch can be push towards the front of the car. It slides out of the hole in the dash and 'falls' out. You can then reach it from underneath the dash
