Disable Passenger Airbag

My 7 year old son is anxious to ride in Dad's new race car. How can I disable the passenger airbag? He usually rides with me to school everyday.
Thanks, Rob

Hi there,
GM offers a passenger side airbag disable switch for the Corvette.
However, it is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL that it be installed correctly.
You will also have to replace the seat belt on that side, as it is of a different design, to work correctly with the disabled air bag.
You can contact your local dealership for the parts.

Disable Airbag

C4C5Specialist,

I've been calling around today to get the lowdown on the on/off switch. Have qoutes between $400 and $500. One of them said that the computer and seat belt had to be replaced as you mentioned and they also said that GM would cover them. Is this true to your knowledge?
Thanks
Rob

My 2000 came with the option. The switch is in the glove compartment & the warning light is on the center console.

HI there,
No, as far as I know, GM has not covered this modification to the vehicle. Please let me know if this is true, as I have no documentation in service information that this is the case.
As far as the computer, no, this is not to be changed, or reprogrammed.
The kit for Corvette is only the kit for the switch and the seat belt. This is why they will ask you for your VIN, so that they get the right seat belt color.
As for the air bag disconnect being in other 2000, it was a midyear production upgrade, and depending on your VIN, you may or may not have it.
