It is 1987 - 002, uses the truck block (as did cars 1-4) and is the earliest one that is in private hands still - 1987-001 is in the Natl. Corvette Museum.

Has updates - wheels and maybe some of the mechanicals - Joanne would have that info in file if it does...

Has been for sale, off & on by different means for a year or two...

The owner of the car used to have a 1991 as well - may be on consignment at that dealer?? or, ???

Anyways, they were looking for low 30's if I recall
(this dealer had some Vette's out on display / for sale at the Chevy Vette fest and all were presented well)

Hope this helps - Chris

That car looks pretty nice. I like that color. It's not to far from where my cousin live in Chicago. I think I'll have to check it out when I'm up there in Feb. if they still have it.

It is indeed a sharp combo and with the updated wheels - all the better!

While there can only be one "first B2K" I think the first 4 Callaways have unique history w/ the truck blocks and this one would be tops on my list if I were in the market :upthumbs

First Vert B2K was # 4 BTW...

....That sounds like something a guy might see on a "Callaway Trivia" test.....

Looks just like my old callaway #184 of #184 i wish i never sold it ,same colors mine needed paint at the time clear coat problems i'd buy this car if the price is right ?/ what is the right price alot of mileage for a callway?? highly collectable #2 ? is the truck block better ? does anyone know who owns #184 now? they would make a good pair of fratenal twins wouldn't you say

Not sure who has 87-184 now - it sold at least once, maybe twice since 2002...
Did not have the Dymags on it last time I saw it.

Truck block was dropped once the caps were made 4 bolt mains on production B2K's - a running change if you will...
Interesting though from a historical perspective :m

How do the callaway cars hold value. If I were interested as I may become down the road, I like to drive. What kind of depreciation should you expect for a callaway? This one has 52k. Is 30 grand a fair price for this car? BTW I liked everything about the car except the floor mats. I wonder why they didn't get some closer to matching.

Craig

Wow, that's a beauty! Just like my 1987 except better! I can remember the first time I was at Carlisle. One like that was on auction, an '87 with the dymags in my flame red color. It was so mint and so awesome looking. I really love that color, and that car looks great!

Chris, I thought the truck blocks were because Callaway hadn't gotten any cars yet, thus no engines to work on. I suspect they wanted to have engines done before they got cars, not pull the engine, prep it, and put it back in the same car, as that would take a really long time.:confused

Seems a bit high to me, my car rolled 40k this weekend and Id have a hard time getting 30k for it.

Happy New Year Aurora, I'm not positive but I think all of the subsequent B2K cars after 87-004 use their original engines that were delivered to Callaway for the B2K option. Maybe Chris can enlighten us.

Actually Joe, you did not get the same motor back in your car that came out of it. To speed production the motors were pre-built then when a new car came in that motor was pulled and put in a later car. :beer

That is correct Surf - This is why the Callaway number stamings are so very important - The Year of the car, car # and last *few* digits of the VIN will be on the pad where the block mates to the head on the passenger side - easy to see on the 88+ B2K's, 87's had a different AC compressor shrouding the view :eek

Hope this helps :m

Thanks for the clarification guy's. I should have known that:( . You can see the pad #'s on the 87's. Yes you have to stand on your head, use a mirror while holding a flashlight in your mouth. It's a real PITA but I've done it. I can show you at Carlisle this year. AHHHHH already thinking of Carlisle- YEAH BABY:_rock

Mike
Has anyone checked out this car for you? If not I will. I know the owners very well and have bought 6 vettes from them including 2 ZR1s. They are good people.

Thanx for the reply..

The car is back on Ebay. I am the high bidder at this point. I talked to the dealer. He was very forthright and nice. I really like this car. I dont think it will sell for what they originally wanted. It is a fine specimen. I have another car on the hook as well, so I am not ready to mortgage the farm on it. Thanx again..mike
