Driver Side Seatbelt retracting problem

The seatbelt on the drivers side no longer retracts. While I have not yet taken it apart, it appears that there are no after market replacements available other than standard lapbelts. I have seen some used ones on ebay and other places.

My question is whether anyone has any experience on rebuilding these? Eckards has a new retraction mechanism in their catalog that I was considering. Any assitance would be appreciated.

I'm interested, too...

Driver side is not retracting immediately, it needs just the right touch to get it to retract.

I was under the impression that Snake Oil rebuilds seatbelts? I would also like to replace my webbing and I wonder if there are any 'rebuild kits' for the retractors?

The best seat belt restorer/rebuilder in the hobby is Charlie Santorelli ("Seatbelt Sity") in Bedminster, New Jersey, (908) 719-2354. Charlie is THE BEST, and a nice guy to deal with.

Your seat belt is a safety item and can save your life - I wouldn't fiddle with it - let a pro do it. Besides, there's a spring in there that can take your finger off if you don't know how to deal with it.

Mine stopped working also, and when I took the panel apart below the seat , I saw a mess!! My floor in my 77 is beautiful, but my seatbelt retractor was rusted. I dont think there was a chance of restoring it so just to warn you before you start taking the seat out etc.... Good luck

I got a new set off ebay for $200 I thought that was pretty good since the catalogs wanted $750 for seat belts for a 75.
