Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

drool, looky this 58

Yes that is a sweet looking vette.

I would guess that the price is still close to $30 K away from his reserve. A 99.3 % car like that has been bringing over $90K. It is a beautiful car.

Absolutely! People just have no idea what the Bloomington Gold and Top Flight status does to a car like this as far as value goes. This car not only Top Flighted, but scored in excess of 99%. This is a mark of an exceptional car, which is hard to understand if you are not into Judging. By the way, the 245 hp engine was not the base engine, it is a dual quad, optional engine.
The problem with car pricing, is that people see a BG, TF, Duntov car bring big bucks and figure that they have a pretty nice 58, so their car should be worth about the same right? The truth is that, the differences in such cars can equate to a difference in value of several tens of thousands of dollars.
There is just no substitute to BG or TF judging to truly indicate the quality of a restoration, and the lack of same can equal big hit when it comes to the final sales price.
I have seen several 58 Fulies which were TF, judged sell for over $125K and that was over 3 years ago. A real nice 99% + TF 58/245 car would bring close to $90 K easily. I am surprised that the seller is trying to sell such a car through E bay, since this is the type of car that generally is sold through word of mouth. People that are looking for such a car are usually aware of them. My guess is that the seller really does not expect to sell the car through this listing, but is just using the listing to get people to contact him, where a deal can be worked out later. In this regard, Ebay is one of the best bargains out there for high-end car sellers. People can list a car for a nominal listing fee, get people interested, and then make a deal with someone after the auction is over, and have no sales fees. People do this all the time. Take notice, and you will see that very few high-end Corvettes actually sell on Ebay, they are listed a couple of times, and then you never see them again.
