Does anyone know or has any dyed their convertible top. My car came with a brand new white top and I would like it to be black. Is there a dye made to do this job? or do I just have to buy a new top.

I worked in a b/s for 30yrs. I have used the dye (really a paint) a lot. It works real well on colors that are similar. I once changed the interior color of a 65 Vert from brown to black, it worked very well, however it will were off of the seat, where you slide in and out, over time. I just touched them up with the spray gun every
6-9 months. Many interior pieces are spray dyed at the factory or the shop ( dash pads, kick panel, etc ). In the 70s I changed the color of many vinyl tops.

I never did a conv. top. I believe it will work, but you will get wear through spots over time from lowering and raising the top. With the black over white color change this would really show.

It can be a cheap fix untill you could afford to replace.

I agree ,if it is german cloth it might work pretty good.If it is nylon or vynal,it will probably last a couple of years, maybe less. :beer

71 vert,

I agree with paintdaddy on one thing it would probably be fine for a cloth top but a viynel or nylon, it would only be good for a temp fix, sun, folding of the soft top, ect would show wear on the creases pretty fast.

I know what you are saying though, you got a brand new top, why should you have to get a new one? maybe you could sell it on eBay and at least cover most of the price for a new black one?
just an idea.

Thanks for the suggestions,

I am going to list it on Ebay and see what I can get for it.
