I went to Woodbridge Dyno tech in Virginia today, a very classy, recommended dyno shop.

With the DynoJet (not a mustang dyno!!) my best pull was my last, after we waited for the car to cool (oil temp was 172):

Max Torque: 336.4 ft-lb@4500rpm (from 3600 rpm to 5000 rpm is at or above 330 ft-lb--very flat)
Max HP: 352 Hp @6200 rpm(from 5900 rpm to 6300 rpm is at or above 348 HP, max 352--very flat).

The previous run was similar, but the car was warmer, probably in the 190's. Max HP: 344. Max tq: 333.

I'm really pleased with these results. The curves show no sign of hesitation or spark knock, so the stock injectors and fuel pressure are adequate (never did the AFPR).

--So, my mods end here. Special thanks to RRubel(that book had great test data on modding the LT1, and it was dead on correct) and Vetlt193 (you discouraged me from the hotcam, that is why I went with this custom comp cam).

Don't forget, you gotta change your signature now to reflect the horsepower increase. :L

Congratulations! :upthumbs

So is this at the wheels, or at the crank? And this is with the PowerEffects installed? Great numbers! Now I've got something to shoot for :). Glad the book was useful; I got some decent info from it but wound up going with a different setup.

How's the new swaybar/bushing set? Saw your Vette at Paul's last week; Ryan and I spent a lot of time looking at the underside, with him asking plenty of "What's that" questions I couldn't answer :(. What's the cage around your driveshaft? It's got some plates at both ends with some aftermarket company's name and URL on them.

yes, of course, rear wheel

Ken--How do I update the signature? I looked for it last night, couldn't find a way to edit it.

Rich,

The 30mm (part of the Z07 suspension kit in '93) sway bar, combined with the new Bilstein sports (you had said the front shocks were worn--thanks), combined with those plates make the car handle like it is on rails!! It's an amazing feeling. I went out early this morning to a parking lot and I COULD NOT BREAK TRACTION from 20 mph no matter how hard I tried (until it started raining!!).

The C4 beam plates are produced by Bill Bordeau of ZR51 Performance, www.ZFDoc.com. They were designed by Bill to make it easier to get the ZF trans out, but had the delicious side effect of stiffening up the trans/rear diff area. This eliminates the rear end's kick out when you shift hard (for road racing), or dump the clutch for a drag race. I'm thinking those will help me lower my 60' time.

As for the dyno--yes, those are rear wheel numbers, the numbers that come right off the dyno sheet, no corrections from me (I think they automatically correct for weather conditon but NOT for engine temperature, that's why I wanted one run with it cooled off). I think that is as much HP as the 02-04 Z06 puts out, or the 93-95 ZR1. And, I can shift at 6200 (when I see needle go over 6) and capture the whole peak, without danger to the bottom end I shall not ask for more!!

Yes, I put the PE exhaust on there at Paul's since I was putting on the C4 beam plates anyway. All dyno runs were with the PE mufflers wide open.

I have some info. for you (and anyone else intersted) on racing your car at Manasses speedway, an old NASCAR track--evidently they do this very often, once-twice per month.

Isnt Horse Power Great!!!:D

UB,

Yes it is!! Thanks for all your advice--I will remember to upgrade my injectors/fuel pump to your specs (didn't you have 30 #ers and a Walbau pump?) if I have problems later. Right now, it doesn't seem necessary.

God be with you in Iraq this Easter. Stay safe. Thank you for doing what you are doing.

Sothpaw, your welcome, hopefully I did not steer you wrong on anything. I got the 30#'s and the Walbro 340.

Im confused??? Your sig says 333hp (not at rear), but your post says those are your rwhp/rwtq #'s. Can you clarify?

If those are true RWHP #s thats very impressive. I think youre still about 30rwhp shy of the 405hp ZR1 or Z06, but an LT4/LS1 would be seeing your tail lights.

Just making sure... your old signature caveated the HP with "not at rear wheels"...

So you've got about 450 HP at the crank? Definitely a goal to shoot for...

Do share the Manassas info. Hopefully my car should be on the road soon, and tuned by mid-summer at the latest, and then I'll be ready to hit the track.

Ok, done, thanks for the reminder.

Nice numbers Andy. Congrats!! Did you make it to the Bob Bell Show? Guy

Wasn't that March 21st? I had to miss that date because I was out of town accompaning my wife on business--she does not like to go alone.

Hope it was a good show--now that I'm back, I'd like to make it to more shows.

Yea, March 21. I was not able to make it either. I'll probably be at the Big M june 19. Guy

sothpaw vbmenu_register("postmenu_365188", true); So what exactly did you do to get this kind of power ?
You mentioned a book about LT1 tuning ??

Gimme details :beer

"Small-block Chevy Performance", by Dave Emanuel. Got mine from TPIS. Now I look through it and find a nice section, with pictures, on how to assemble your engine with tips on getting the proper clearances for everything. Bonus!

It's not specific to the LT1; it's a general "do this, get more; do this, sacrifice this but get even MORE" kind of book.

heads, cam, exhaust

Pilot,
See my updated signature, at the beginning of the post. According to the book, you get about 27 fwhp from porting the stock LT1 heads and 12 fwhp from boring the TB to 52mm. The Power effects exhaust system is good for another 10 fwhp (see their literature--most of the systems are in this ball park). Lastly, a mild duration cam such as the one I chose or the Hot cam will deliver about another 20 rwhp. That's all I did--change cam, bore out stock TB, port stock heads, change cat back (I did have stock exhaust w/ muffler elims. but I wanted to try the PE when I found a good used set)
