Dynoed my 2002 Roadster B4 and after mods...

I agree with EVO. The track is the only real way to measure how the mods are working. The thing is sometimes you have to be moving for some of them to help you out i.e. ram air systems.

The best way is to run your car at the track and get a feel for it first. And I mean practice practice practice, I am serious. Once you learn how to REALLY drive your car then start modding up and you'll see the difference the mods make. What I just said isn't personally directed towards you. That comes from watching F-bods with LS1 engines running 14.5-14.8 at the local drag strip. Now I am at a different altitude than you and conditions vary from place to place. So in fair comparison I have a friend who just bought a WS6 T/A and he was running consistant and I do mean consistant 14.00 sec 1/4's and was trapping 107-108mph. That was with his girl in the car. w/o her he cuts 13.7-13.8 and his only mod is a lid. Thats compared to the other guys with the same car that same night, but the difference was they didn't know how to run the car. A lid doesnt drop your ET by .7 secs. Thats a combination of skill and pushing the car to its limits.

What I am getting at is with those little mods you'll see a big difference in you E/T's but you'll have to know how to get it down the track as fast as possible first because if you don't know you'll never really see the difference other than seat of your pants feeling.

I think a stock hard top M6 C5 should run really close to 13'sec and i am talking border line. I believe a stock C5 coupe has the same power/torque as an f-bod but you have (i think) a 200lb advantage over them. That weight is approx .2 in the 1/4. With your mods you should be able to cut high 12's. And don't look at just peak numbers, pay attention to how the mods helped over the whole power/torque band. Thats whats being put to the ground at a given rpm.

Don't the LS6 engine and LS1 engine have different intakes. If I am not mistaking the 2001-2002 F-bods came equipped with the LS6 intake.

There is a difference because I have seen pics of the two manifolds side by side and it seems to be a popular mod w/ the F-bod guys. Adds something like 8-10rwhp.

correct?

Hi there,
For the 01 model year, all LS1 and LS6 equipped F car and Y car were all equipped with the same intake, with a lower floor area.
This gave better runner length and better torque numbers across the range.
The power gains were given for the earlier models, 00 and before.

Bolt Ons

On my 98 stick I added Corsa Indys first and the car then sounds like a Vette but acceleration was about the same. I lost a street race to a Camaro Z28 with a missed shift and installed the B&M shifter, I then added a bunch of parts: MAF, T-Body, Plugs, Wires, Donaldson(BlackWing), TPIS Headers and had the PCM reprogrammed.
Wow! It was a different car!, The mid range torque was way up and the car pulled hard to 6,000.
But I had clutch problems shortly after and replaced the Factory setup with a Alum McLeod Setup, Get out the leg exersiser. At the same time I added the Mallet 3:73 Gears set.
Again Wow! Stong pull and real hard accel in 3rd my favorite gear.
Lugs arround OK but nail it and you can be doing 100 in a heart beat.
Lastly, I am in the process of fine tuning with a MAFT from Ramchargers. With the Ease software I have learned I am running lean at WOT.
The newer LS1's have a larger MAF already, but you can still get good gains in my opinion and experience from:
Air Filter
Headers
PCM programming
All the other stuff is hard to justify.
Lastly, If I could do it over again I would have done one of two things.
1) kept my 93 6 Speed, added a Supercharger and sidepipes
2) Supercharged my 98 and keep the B&M shifter, period
The deal is I like torque, and yet miss the 6,500 pull with the old hot rod motors like my 64 365 HP rag top.
I had a 81 with a 90 L98, TPIS and Vortech all under a stock hood, and called it C3SLEPR. Man was it fun to drive!
The Goodyears have yielded to Firestones, but the next set would be Z06 wheels and tires, heard lots of good things about the impact on handing and noise form this setup.

C5NGAGE,

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center from another Northern VA owner. :)

I think for the bang or buck those are the best mods C5NCAGE.

The aftermarket for these engines/cars is REALLY expensive and its really hard to justify some of the modifications on these cars.

BUT those little things do add up.

I am thinking on going stroker 382 on my C5/F-bod (undecided at the moment) and TEA has some really good heads and is $1000 less than the best and they go head to head with them as far as flow is concerned and the power that the cars put out backs it up to.

I think with bolt ons you can get close to 350 rear wheel Hp and the same for the torque.

this is what I have seen from my observations

My 97 M6 C5 has:
Flowmaster exhaust
HPP3
MDS wires & NGK TR55 plugs
160deg. T-Stat
Breathless Performance Parts Intake (bottom breather)
De-screened stock MAF
I never dyno'ed before but after these basic mods it showed 323 HP 331 TQ.

I take it to the Sacremento Raceway Track fairly offten and am starting to learn how to apply the power to the track better and better.
My best run was a 13.1 @110mph. This was early in my learning curve and with a set of worn out F1's on the rear.
Here's some of my timpslip info @ the 1/8th.
8.882
8.88 - 85.80mph
8.638 - 86.84
8.936 - 85.71
9.158 - 84.18

By the way this was with about 80,000 mi on it. It's now @110,000 :)

More air needs more fuel

If you have added intake mods., it would be a good idea to increase the fuel delivered also. Les who has a post regarding your post, told me about the MAF translator. This MAF translator will enable you to change your spark advance and trick the PCM in giving you more fuel. It really makes a difference. My last 1/4mi. I had a bad launch, but was able to run 13.2 @ 115 mph. That trap speed tells me that the car is capable of 12.9 with a better launch. My mods are: 6" K&N Conical truck filter, radiator shroud cut away about 75%. Fog lamp plastic mounts removed from nose. 80mm MAF ends (screen removed), 80mm BBK throttlebody, Vortex power duct, ZO6 Intake, Jet stage II chip, MAF translator, Recalibrated MAT sensor relocation, Throttlebody coolant by-pass, 160 degree powerstat and Borla XR-1 race exhaust. I picked up 5 mph on my trap speed adding the MAF translator with a bad launch. Future mods. after the first of the year are heads, valvetrain, cam, larger injectors, bigger fuel pump, and long tube headers. That should get me well into the 12's and closer to 11's. Will I be happy then? My luck, I'd find myself looking for a supercharger after all that. When will it all end?

Todd after the first of the year , looks like the only way I'm going to keep up with you is if you throw me a rope!! Let us know how it works out.:s

but was able to run 13.2 @ 115 mph

I disagree. With that kind of a trap you should be pulling really low 12's maybe high 11's. At least thats what I typically see with cars trapping that high!

What was you 60' like?

Nice trap BTW!

That puppy still has a lot left in her, keep practicing!:D :beer
