Ebay Callaway motor tranny and TURBOS

That's an LT1 motor if I ever saw one.... and those ARE NOT turbo exhaust manifolds...

There is, however, a separate picture of a turbo... but it doesn't go with the other picture!

There's a sucker born every minute.. buyer beware!! ;)

The "turbo motor" has been re-listed - and the story keeps getting better and better...

Ok I am going to start out with a little history of the engine. My father was a large Chevy dealer out of Denver Colorado. So large in fact that GM gave my dad the 1,000,001 corvette made as a gift. ( We still have it today and it only has 12 miles on it) In 1988 he purchased an 89 Blue Callaway Twin Turbo Automatic brand new from the factory. It was one of 2 Automatics made that year. When the car had a little less than 1000 miles on it, my dad noticed it was having some heating problems. He took it into our service department and while it was sitting there a man walked into the shop and just stole the car. He made it about 2 miles down the road before the cops got him. THE CAR WAS NOT WRECKED! We got the insurance company to purchase a brand new engine from callaway that week with turbos and another transmission. We salvaged this engine and immediatley bought it back from the place because there wasn't anything wrong with it. We had the engine sent back to Callaway and had them go through it to make sure nothing was wrong with it. So that is how we ended up with a second engine. Here is a little more info. THE ENGINE: The engine is an 89 Callaway Twin Turbo out of vehicle- VIN 1G1YY3189K5105247. This item was listed yesterday and people were telling me it isn't the real thing so I ran all th numbers to be sure and it is. I do not know why this is not an L98, but I do know for a fact it is a Callaway engine and you can run that VIN to verify. When Callaway gave us the engine back, it sat in storage until now. The engine has less than 1,000 miles on it! THE TURBOS: The Turbos are Roto-Master, Inc Part # 107100 and Serial # for the first one is 405870 and for the second one it is 406016. They were the original turbos for this engine and are in the boxes that the second set were shipped to us in. THE TRANSMISSION: Thie Transmission has never been used! It is one of 2 automatic transmissions that Callaway did that year! It is a Turbo Hydra Matic #099. The Serial number is 88 FBA-3650. This transmission has never been in a car and when it was purchased from Callaway it was a $6,500 upgrade from Callaway that is why only 2 were built and ours was one of them! Shipping for everything is going to be Shipping will be only 250 dollars for this item because I will pay for half if the reserve is met. All Items will be crated and shipped to your location! THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE ENGINE< BOTH TURBOS AND THE TRANSMISSION!! Happy bidding!

the turbos look good, but that crap about the motor is a load of BS....which would make me leary about buying the turbos in the first place.

Callaway Motor tranny

Sure Chris. I remember that car. I wrote serial # down somewhere with my auction notes. Now if I can just find them:confused Any way the miles on car were low but it didn't seem to have been well cared for. IMHO?? I'll check my stuff tomorrow for that serial number:wOh by the way it sold to owner, was in lot afterward with available sign.:(

Is that a Callaway transmission? Could you tell by looking at it?

Did callaway make any LT1 twin turbo cars???? Aftermarket.. I know they didn't make any LT1 B2k.

No LT1 Twin Turbo cars - At Bloomington, Reeves had mentioned that the reverse cooling made it an poor candidate for turbocharging :eek

From the gear vendors website:

At about 2200 dollars (depending on model) the GEAR VENDORS is not the cheapest way for you to get overdrive (a rebuilt wrecking yard 700r4 is probably cheaper) but the GEAR VENDORS is by far the best way. Horsepower handling is the first issue. A GEAR VENDORS will handle 1200+ horsepower reliably. This is why you have seen GEAR VENDORS in 8 second 1/4 mile cars in publications like Hot Rod and National Dragster. This is also why all GM Callaway Corvettes with automatics came with a TH400 and GEAR VENDORS instead of the 700r4 which is the base Corvette trans. If you're running more than 1200 horsepower (and we have customers that are) then talk to us at the factory as there are some hydraulic changes we do for vehicles up to 2000hp

What i think of the transmission..
As far as i know all c4's have a torque arm from the transmission end to front diff!
The tailshaft on this transmission shows a horizontal mounting for a crossmember (that isn't there on a c4) and not the vertical mounting for the torque arm...

Groeten Peter.

It's hard to determine if the guy is BS'ing or he's just very confused. From his description I'd say he's not a car guy. Maybe his father was since he owned the dealership? I'm speculating that he's inherited a pile of parts that he has basically no idea what they are and he's confused.

I asked him to send me pics of the tags on the turbos and he didn't do it.
