I have a helms manual and was looking at the diagrams for removing the center trim pannel (I think thats what they call it). The big pad type thing on the passenger side where the glove box would normally be. It looks like, in order to remove this I will have to remove the entire I/P upper trim pannel and possibly all the I/P trim too. There must be an easier way to get at the ECM without having to dismantle the entire I/P trim. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I get at the ECM from underneath. If you remove the passenger hush panel (where the footwell light is - BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THOSE WIRES ARE SHORT!) then you should be able to look up and see the tan box that contains the ECM. Two bolts (8mm?) hold it in place, and sometimes some electrical tape, and then it'll drop down into the footwell. I've got mine out right now and I didn't have to take the dash pad off.

Yep.........that's the way to go. It's not as hard as it may sound but definately easier then removing the "breadbox?

ps: those wires will also be "live" unless you disconnect the battery or pull the fuse

I agree, no need to tear the whole dash apart to get to it.

Yeah, if you are a small guy like me. It was kind of easy, all I did was lay on my back. I am 6 foot and only weigh around 165. so fitting in there wasnt an issue for me.
