Edelbrock Performer RPM

I'll be looking for some pics. I picked up a stock hood on ebay last night. I thought it would give me something to cut up(experiment) Anyone running a shaker scoop on a vette out there?

That's a good link to carb height formula that Joe posted http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/man_selec.html#hoodclearance ... pay close attention to that angle because the edges of the air cleaner get multiplied by that carb pad angle. It ain't just the average height that's important.

Here's some comparisons ... the first one is an iron intake that was stock on my 71 L48:

Intake Manifold, OEM cast iron c/n 3973460 F = 2.69” R = 4.375”
Intake Manifold, Weiand alum. p/n 8004 F = 3.50” R = 4”
Intake Manifold, Edelbrock alum. p/n 2101 F = 3.50” R = 4.60

JACK:gap

There is not a lot of clearance under a C3 hood. Mine has a Weiand intake, a little higher than stock. I have a lock nut instead of a wing nut on the air cleaner. You can see scratches on the underside of the hood, the wing nut did not fit.

This is not really an intake/carb clearance issue. Its a air cleaner clearance issue. I did a lot of work on my '73 with intakes, carbs, air cleaners and hoods. Everything I put under there fit with one of those little Edelbrock triangular foam air filters on it. Drop base air cleaners work as well, but will not clear every carb. The Speed Demon works well, but you will have to use either a 1 inch spacer to clear the rear manifold vacuum connector, or get one of the slick low profile vacuum connectors (that is what I did). The Holly Hi-Tek air cleaner will fit under a BB hood, but hits on the sides of a small block hood. All in all, I went back to the small Edelbrock element and stock hood and called it quits. Without hood modifications it was just too much of a hassle. Food for thought.
