EGR help on 95 ZR1

Are you asking about how to change the digital EGR valve or how to change the way the EGR system works on the 93-95 LT5?

Typically, to change the valve you also have to lift the engine off the right mount slightly. While your underneath the car, check to make sure the pipe running from the right exhaust manifold up to the valve is tightly clamped in place.

Also, I see you're in Bakersfield. If you have to undergo the enhanced smog check in Bakersfield, you may have a hard time passing on EGR even if the system is working properly because of changes the CARB made to the maximum allowable emissions.

If you run up against that problem and your EGR system is working properly, the only solution is to install a custom calibration.

The funny thing is I had the Egr valve unbolted ready to pull out in a few minutes, I was just having trouble getting it out from the side of the block. Well thanks for all your help I appreciate it.

The ducts which run from the right exhaust manifold to the valve and from the valve up to the intake manfifold are pretty large in diameter so they shouldn't be plugged.

I've never had to clean the valve on my 95 and, thus, have never had it off but I suppose it's possible for the passages in the base of the digital EGR valve. You can try a spray carb cleaner but you want to be careful because it is possible the valve assembly cannot be soaked in any liquid.

Sorry for the off-topic request here but Hib, I notice you are in socal. I live in Brea and also have a 95 ZR-1. How can I get in touch with you?

Brea, eh. Well....we're real close. Sorry it took me a while to respond. I didn't revisit this thread for a while.
