Okay, as most of you know I have been chasing a Code 32 (EGR System) related Service Engine Soon light for about 3 months now. I have removed the EGR and using an old test, I think it is bad. The test is to remove the valve and hook up a rubber hose to the vacuum port and blow smoke into it. (Gives me a chance to have a cigarette after 5 years!!) The smoke comes out around the diaphram so I would assume it has ruptured. Can anyone confirm that this would be the case?? I am going to replace the valve with new (as soon as I can locate one) but for peace of mind I would like to know that the EGR valve was the culprit that caused the engine service light. I know that once it is back together (and hopefully the light doesn't come on) I will have my answer but it would make it much more pleasant putting it back together if I was fairly confident that this is a cure. All opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't followed your troubleshooting. I had an EGR trouble code and fianlly traced it to an intermittant EGR temp switch. All I ever did to make it quite was wiggle the wire and get the contacts cleaned off. It's been cured for about 3 yrs now.

Thanks for the reply. Had the EGR switch off and checked the wiring and the switch and it checked okay. Just wondering if the diaphram in the EGR valve is suppose to let smoke through if it is ruptured. Had this problem on an 85 SS and that's the way we checked it. Just trying to confirm that I may have located the problem before I re-assemble the plenum. Am thinking about changing out the MAT sensor while I have the plenum off. They're cheap and it would eliminate one more thing in the electronic chain. thanks again.
