1966,and a 1962 thats almost complete
OK so I am addicted to ebay any way I purchased a 4 way flasher kit for my car off ebay.It did not work when I connected it.The flasher was bad.I went out and purchased a heavey duty flasher and reinstalled it and it takes a good 20 secounds or so before the flasher starts to flash ,once it starts to flash it will flash indefinateley. The signal light (or the light in the handel) never light's and it has no power to it. Once I turn it off and leave it sit for about a minute or so I can hear a slight click as if the the flasher has pulled in and then the rear brake light come on and stay on (I did not look to see if the front marker light where on but I only can assume they were on)

Does anybody know if the flasher works on a heat relay once if pulls in and thats what makes it flash?

I also noticed with a test light that I have a bright test light for power coming in and the even with the switch pushed in I get a dim test light bulb .I will bring home a multi meter on monday to measure the voltage leaking out of the flasher when off.

Is there a posibility I could have the wrong flasher? I was told it was a signal stat 501 with is no longer available

Your advice is apreciated

Flasher 101

Here's the deal.

The flasher is a switch with one Bi Metal leg.

As you draw current the flasher internally heats up and the metal LIFTS opening the circut. Once it cools down the metal bends back and completes the circut..

Some flashers have a coil of wire around the leg to assist the heating process...

Usually if the flasher...isnt... there is not enough load to make it heat up & break the circut.

Vig thanks I was figuring the flasher was too strong and it did not have enough of a load on it and that why it took it so long to start flashing but it did not exspain why the rear tail lights stay on after or why the signal light does not have power to it.I paid about $18.00 for the heavey duty flasher and just picked up a $4.00 light duty flasher I will see what happens with it .

Again thanks for the input
