Any drawbacks to also installing 3 phase wiring? I just realized I needed it when a potential buyer for some industrial equipment couldn't use a heavy duty floor mounted sander because it was 3 phase.

I know where I can get a killer, german Kaeser screw air compressor in 3 phase for a song that would provide more than enough air for a major dealership's shop.

Is this for a business or residence?

There may or may not be 3-phase service available at your location. If it is then the Electric Co. will install the service, and the billing department will be more than happy to charge for it ;) Most companies don't make it a habit of providing 3-phase service to residenial customers. The cost of upgrading to a 3-phase service doesn't justify making it available in residential area's.

Mostly 3-phase is considered Industrial or Commercial accounting and billed at a different kwh than residential.

I just retired in August :D

Bud hit it right on the nose, most residental areas are single phase and depending on your utility they may require a demand rate (power ready surcharge) per month on top of your usage. Also material, installation and inspection charges will cost more.

You Can Buy Converters To Do This Just Go Out On The Web And Search.if You Go By A Field Were There Is A Irragator System They Are Mostly 3 Phase.look By The Power Pole And You Will See The Converter. No 3 Phase In The Country.looks Like A Electric Motor With No Shaft.
