1986 Black C4 Convertable
Hi,

Just wondering if anybody knows the answer to this one.

When driving along with the volt meter reading a steady 13.7 the brightness of my dash on my 1986 C4 changes faster than I change gear!!!!.

What is wrong with it as the voltage is not fluctuating?

Cheers in advance

I don't know how similar the 86 cluster is to my 84, but the 84 has a light sensor that controls illumination. More ambient light = lower illumination and vice-versa. If the sensor is wigging out it could cause the panel brightness to fluctuate, which is not uncommon.

Thanks for that, you are right , there is a sensor I will start with that.

The other thing to consider

The ramp rate of the dash dimmer.. as you shine a flashlight on the sensor directly.. the rate which the back illumination changes is fairly slow.. not a BLINK.... look and see if ONE corner gets dim ONLY... you could have a lamp going, there are 4 behind the dash ( actually inside the dash module )
