Which GM transmissions have been available in electronic form? The 4L60 and 4L80E, obviously. But have there ever been electronically-controlled versions of the TH350 or TH400?

Also, how is the electronic valve body actuated by the controller? Could the electronic valve body be installed in a mechanical transmissions, like a manual valve body can be retrofitted (in other words, to allow the transmission to be electronically shifted, without compromising the systems that regulate pressure, etc.)?

Both the TH350 and the TH400 (3L80) had electronically-operated, lock-up TQ clutches but they were not full-electronically-controlled as are the 4L60-E and 4L80-E.

Electronic controls cannot be easily retrofitted to transmissions not originally equipped with them.

Thanks. So only the 4L60E and 4L80E transmissions were made with electronic valving?

When you say that retrofitting electronic controls would be difficult, do you mean that there would be problems with installing a 4L60E valve body in a 700-R4 (for example)? Obviously, it would no longer shift automatically, but would it behave similar to a 700-R4 with a manual valve body?

Thanks,
Joe
