I just got a new hood emblem and I was wondering what the best way to remove the existing emblem is. The hood emblem appears to be a push on, unlike the fuel door emblem which has a couple of nuts on threaded pins.

Any tips for replacing the hood emblem would be apreciated.

I replaced the emblems on my 88 a couple years ago. If I recall I had a little problem getting the hood one off. Suggest a little heat from a hair dryer and try dental floss or fishing line to saw through the double-sided tape they are put on with. I also seem to recall that they also had nuts on the back much like the fuel door but it's also been a few years since I did them so I may not be correct. If the hood one does have pins you definitely don't want to lose the nuts down into your hood. All I can recall is that it wasn't a bad job.

Hope this helps.

Yea, there are the stamped steel nuts on the front one as well. You will find a couple of "holes" in the under side of the hood where you can stick your socket up there and remove the nuts. Just be forewarned, don't drop the nuts or socket while in the "hole", if you do the nuts are lost forever into the recesses of the hood.

I got mine off OK and when putting the new emblem on, I put a little bit of grease on the nut to hold it in place while re-installing the nuts. New emblems make a world of difference in the appearance.

Magnetize the socket by rubbing it over a strong magnet or put some plumbers putty in the socket before you try to take the nuts off. Just don't drop the socket in the hood.

I put some of that permatex rubber gasket stuff on the nut so it would not fall out of the socket, after I lost one in the hood. I went to my local GM and they gave me five free nuts. Not all car lots are bad.
