Question: Engine ID

There's a 6 cylinder engine in my truck, and I haven't a clue what year the engine is. When asked, the previous owner said, "I think it's from a 1970 or 1971 Corvette." Can someone help me find out what year the engine is? Cast on the block itself (passenger side, by the motor mount) are the numbers 3994257 with GM underneath the numbers, and 80 underneath GM. Is this the engine ID number? Thanks, I appreciate any help.

Corvettes haven't had 6 cylinder engines since 1955, that casting number is much newer I believe.

try a salvage yard to see if they have a book they can look it up in... most of them do have those

might not even be from a chevy

that number is not anywhere that i could find...

definitely not a corvette engine !
