Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a 1980 model and trying to identify the engine in it to redo everything and find the proper specs. The engine has been replaced with a goodwrench engine, the valve covers say "Goodwrench" and have "350" on them in red. On the block "boss" in front under the head on passenger side says "MI 18800" clearly. the block "boss" on the rear driver side that has the bellhousing connecting to it reads "3 or 8 1st then 97 then 0 or 6 then 010" . Another thing is that it has 43TS delco spark plugs in it, I thought those were only for the 305 ci? Is there any other way to see what it really is? should i pull the valve covers and find out what heads are on it too? If it is a 350 do i have to get real technical with the year block and all, or are all the 350's basically the same specs for tuning and parts? Any help will be appreciated ;help

The block casting #, 3970010, is a 350 casting that was used from '69 through '80 in all types of chevys including Vettes. Sorry, but have no idea of what the numbers stamped on the "boss" translate to. Would suggest contacting the chevy parts department to see if they can tell you what the numbers mean.

The 305 was sold in Calif. only, if you have an automatic trans watch the U-joints they cant take to much power over 300 HP. I had to replace mine with 1350 U-joints, same as a stick. The rear end is a Dana 44, and not the best posi unit for extra HP either.
I redone all of my drivetrain to take 650 HP from my small block 427, No problems yet.
