Engine noise problem

I recently replaced my cap, rotor and starter as I was having some starting problems. The engine starts fine now but when the engine is running it makes a loud clicking sound. I thought maybe the starter needed shimming so I inserted as many shims as I could and still could not eliminate the noise. Has anyone run into this problem before? The sound seems to come from the general area of the starter but is it possible that it is a problem with the rotor I replaced? Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Look at your rotor again, it may not be sitting flat on the mounting plate and gitting the cap contacts. There is a flat notch on one side of the advance plate that it can get cocked up on. Check also to make sure your cap is down all the way on the distibutor and centered with the notch on the cap.

I checked the rotor and had it on ok. I put the cap back on and made sure the plug wires were good and tight and put is all back together. Maybe the cap was a little off kilter because the problem seems to be solved. Thanks for your help.
