Hello,
The machine shop decked the block before I was able to take a picture of the engine numbers and too much time has passed now and I do not remember if the number I wrote down, V0311ZDO; if the "O" were "0" or the "0" were "O".
Does anyone know which one is which??

Thanks,
LannyL81

Hi Lanny!

I was hoping I'd catch a post from you - you had sent me a private message like last year some time and I didn't even know you could do that! I found it by accident when I was messing with my avatar. Anyway, how goes it? Nothing much has changed here (at least with the vette) - too busy working and going to school!!
Cheers

engine numbers

that's v "zero" 3...also, about the ZDO...I see ZDA, ZDB, ZDC, and ZDD. are you sure about the "O"?

Regarding the "VDO".....well I thought it was as "O" at the time I wrote it down, but all I have is what I wrote down on a scrape of paper. Is there some other place I can check on the block? The "O" could have been a "D".....can I go by assembly location (St. Louis)??? I sure want to put the correct numbers back on.

Thanks,
Lanny

Unless you're going into the judging game, you're better off not restamping the block. It will be obvious to a trained eye that the motor is a restamp which will always raise suspicion about fraud.

A good machine shop will 1) not deck the block in the first place (they rarely need it) or 2) avoid decking the stamp pad to preserve it.

I know it's too late in your case, but you can avoid making things worse by retamping it. :beer

I am for sure not into the judging game....not even close. My thought was only to assure a new owner that the engine block is original...but since I am putting different heads on it.(882)....may be even change out the intake.....doesn't seem to make much sense now.

Didn't have the correct size lettering/numbering stamps anyways for the VIN.

As far as the last character in the engine number.....this is a 4 sp from California, which would make it either an "A" or a "C"....most likey it was a "C" and I misread it. Think I'll just leave them off.

Thanks to all,
Lanny
