Engine VIN double striking

I was looking at the engine VIN on a '64 the other day at a small show. To the left of the engine assembly date, the VIN number appeared to be double struck, with the correct numbers. It was then struck again, very clearly, beneath the engine assembly date. The engine assembly date looks fine, and is a week before what we believe to be the car assembly date, at least according the the VIN decoders we have used. (Engine 3/25, car 4/1).

Anyone ever see anything like this?

Quite common, almost desirable to see as a mark of authenticity. Restampers/counterfeiters try to get it right the first time, unlikely they would miss the first shot as happened on the assembly line.

Agreed. I have seen several photos of these types of anomolies that were documented original.
