I was beginning the installation of my new chambered exhaust system and of course, one of the exhaust studs busted on the right side, arrrrgh!

I want to hear these pipes!!

I have two questions before I tackle this minor headache.

1. Are the exhaust studs pressed in or threaded in the manifold, and what is the best way to remove them for replacement?

2. Does anyone know of a spacer that is sold anywhere that can be used instead of the heat riser?

Thanks in advance,
-john

If they are anything like my buddies 64 the studs are screwed in, we broke 2 of them and got them out using a torch and vise-grips. We also eliminated the heat riser by getting a 3" spacer I believe from ZIP, but you might be able to find a good local exhaust shop that has one.

John,
by heat riser are you talking about the flapper valve in the right exhaust manifold??? i would just remove the flapper in the two(ish) inch spacer piece. the one on my "77 had rusted the two pins in half and the flapper fell over the pipe port. needless to say major restriction and added heat. after removing, she ran super good, Brian
ps. the studs are screw in style and only heat and an easy-out will remove them from their lodged location. replace them with brass if you can.
