muffler Hangers??????????

Hi

Today while l was underneath the rear of my vette, l noticed that there are hangers on top of both mufflers.

The question is, that there is a a metal hanger that seems to be held down by a pressure bracket made of metal and rubber.
The hanger on both sides has play in it, is this supposed to be happening or is it just loose?? l tried to tighten it, but l stopped when l had to apply to much pressure to tighten the bolts.

This could be a source of a rattle.

lf l didn't make myself clear please let me know.

Thanks

Alan

Help Somebody!!!!!!!

Guy's l need a little help here! l have nothing to compare it too.

Thanks

Alan

It should be able to move some, but if the rubber is good, not rattle. How much movement do you have?

Rattle???

HI

I'm not sure that it is rattling but l'm trying to seek out all of the rattles if possible.

It seems that when l drive over uneven roads l hear a rattle coming from the front, but from my experiance it could come from anywhere.

It would make sense that the exhaust system is the culprit, or my vette is falling apart like all other C4's.

The movement is up and down about a half inch. And from side to side.

I would need a pressure tool to tighten it any more.

If you have any other suggestions please jump in.

Alan

p.s. My hood is perfect. The cowels squeak, but that is normal.

I do not listen to the radio!

Play in that hanger is normal.

Thanks

Well, do you have any other leads that l can search out?

Before l take my vette up to speed, l want it to be as quiet as possible so that if anything goes wrong l will hear it, and for my friends not to always ride me that a vette is a rattle box.

Thanks

Alan

I checked my mufflers and they don't have hardly any play on the rear hanger mount. They clamp on firmly but will allow for expansion.

Doors are a great source of Corvette rattles, so you may want to check them also.

Sure do. The glass roof rear brackets come loose sometimes. Tighten the two smaller torq bolts.
