I've got a few questions reguarding exhaust for my '78. I want to get the chambered exhaust system in MAD. I am also wanting to remove the cats.

First question, with older vehicles, would there be any negative effects of removing the cats? I know Ken sent me an article when I was going through the same decision making process for my '93, but I can't remember where that was.

Second, Would the chambered exhaust (possibly with some refined tips) be the best route to go for that muscle car sound? I don't want to go with side exhaust even though I have always loved the look and sound, I don't want to change the appearance of my 78.

Third, Would this put me in any kind of class in car shows that I wouldn't have a chance in considering that will be the only thing I plan on modifying on my 'vette?

I do not mind interior noise, I hardly listen to the radio in my car as I love to just listen to her run! (not to mention the radio isn't too impressive anyways:L

Thanks for any info you all may be able to provide! :upthumbs

I took cats off of mine and installed true duals with flow masters. Best mod ever. Made Vette sound like it was supposed to. Ran better, sounded better. I don't have headers, so it really is only deafening when you really punch it. Sounds real good outside of car. Not much into the car shows, but I would say negative impact because not original setup. In past posts some said chambered was too much, but I think it is one of those things you will never know until you hear yourself.

I installed the chambered exhaust from MAD on mine but it was a bit too loud for my tastes. I had the local muffler shop install some glass packs which cut the sound down to a resonable level (in my opinion) but retained the chambered qualities. In other words it sounds great.

Did you have the cat's hooked up when you had the chambered exhaust? Also did you have headers in your set-up?

Tru Duals

I went this way on the exhaust...
Hooker Ceramic Headers
2 1/4" Exhaust Pipe
Dynamax Hi-Flo Cats
Flowmaster Mufflers

At idle you can tell the car means business. When you step on it my Vette sounds like it's running the quarter mile at US 30 Dragstrip.I am so pleased since I went to the true dual system.

79 L-82
350 4 Bolt
Roller Motor
Crane Cam
10 to 1 Pistons
Balanced / Blueprinted
400hp per dyno
Etc...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!!
