After having bought my first Vette last fall I began a restoration of the car over the winter. Thus far I have purchased a 385HP GM crate engine. The turbo 400 was completely rebuilt by ATI and will include a 2800 stall converter. I have rebuilt the entire suspension. The frame and floorboards were high pressure washed and the undercarriage repainted with satin black urethane paint. The frame and floorboards were in beautiful shape with only minor surface rust. I am about to drop the engine and transmission in which includes a set of ceramic coated headers and just about everything Jegs sells bolted to it. My question is can anyone recommend a set of mufflers that (A) sound nice and mellow without cracking like a glass pack, and (B) fit nicely in the space provided on either side of the fuel tank. I want the car to look nice from the back and have seen some hidious muffler installations on Vettes. Any pictures comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Mufflers

I have the 3 chamber flowmasters, (Not the delta flow) with an "H" pipe. They are not too bad noise wise. I like 'em for the money. They are a tight fit, No pics for you though.

The DynoMax 17264 may fit your car. It's listed for 74-82, but it is similar in dimensions to the stock muffler for the 68-73 cars, except the inlet pipe (which it does not have), but if you are having an exhaust custom bent, that should not be an issue.

They are stainless mufflers, so they will look nice, and stay looking nice.

And they sound great. The sound is present, but mellow at idle. If you floor it, though, it wakes up and lets you know it's there.

I have those mufflers, being fed by dual 2-1/2" stainless pipes, and I'm quite pleased with the system.
