For all of us with 02,s or 03's, With an exhaust jingle on decel. GM has been promising a fix ever since January 10,2002 when the VME first came out. Dave Peicy, the Corvette Brand Quality Manger And GM has made no or little atempt to solve our problem. I could go into the O2 sensors, that rattle on the ordenarally C5's. Or the pre-cats and pup-cat on the 02's and 01's, but at this point it is not nessesary. What I think we should all do is flood GM with our complaints. We all know that it is the resinating sound from the H-pipe, and it can be corrected by changing to an after-market X-pipe. We need to convince GM or our local Dealer That our fix would only cost about $300.00. And they (GM) would have to spend there man-hours on this fix. Well, we call Veronic Johnson, with the Executive Team, 1-313-667-7153, and leave her a peice of our minds. I feel if enough of us would complain, Someone would listen. I GUARANTEE That all 02's and 03's Z06's with the factory H-pipe Have a rattle, that sound like keys rattling on decelaration from any RPM over 1.5, Has this problem. HELP me HELP us. If that number is long-distance for you try the GM complaint hotline it is an 800#. Thanks to all who TRY

I called today and left her a VM - no response yet!

If you haven't done so try going to the MAIN page, then down to nearly the bottom find SEARCH, then enter exhaust jingle...
There are about 355 threads on that topic.
You will probably find here and on another forum site that most Z06 owners really don't mind the jingle since most of us fall into one of the following categories:
1. The jingle can't be heard over the sound of the open headers.

2. The jingle occurs in a small RPM range that we are passing through on the way to 6500 RPM.

3. The exhaust system has already been modified, and no longer makes that sound.

4. We lost most of our hearing long ago driving cars that were really loud, and we can't hear the jingle.

5. We don't pay attention to the jingle.

6. We don't care if it jingles or not.

Just thought I would give you some insight on how much info is available here and elswhere already. I don't know what the answer is going to be, but realistically I don't think Chevrolet is going to do much about it on the Z06, but I could be wrong about that. They consider it to be an ultra performance car, so the additional noise is part of that.

This is fact.

Hi there,
I feel the need to post on this very disturbing reply. While you may not understand the cause of the jingle, or what is being done about it, let me expand on this.
As per my previous posts on this subject, Corvette engineering has been working on this issue since it was found in the 02 model year ZO6. They have been working on this tirelessly, to develop a correct fix for the issue, so that it does NOT reoccur.
FACT, This is due to converter redesign because of the elimination of the precats for the 02. Now, this, in conjunction with the H pipe diameter, causes the issue.
There are interrelations between the converter size, noise and vibration dampening, cross section area, and other issues, including the titanium muffler assemblies, that ALL must be considered.
Attempting to speak your minds to GM engineers, like Dave and Veronica, while they have been busting their butts to get the solution through EPA, and other departments within GM, is ludicrous.
They care more than any people I know, and I do NOT condone any course of action, like this.
They have to follow GM guidelines, EPA, NHSTA, and others. Let them do their job, and the fix will come.
I have 15 ZO6 that are awaiting the fix, and all my customers understand, that when the fix is in, they will have their cars repaired, correctly, the first time out.

EXHAUST JINGLE- GM is clueless

How are you today, c4c5speacalist, I realy feel the need to post my disatisfaction with GM's Executive Team. They have closed my and all files (Case#'s) dealing with the "Jingle" Just saying it is a Charactoristic Of the vehicle. I'am not satisfied at all with this anwser. They cant tell me what it is ,were it is comeing from, Or why it's only in the Z06's and not the C5's. I know that you can and most of the other owners can tell me-us the problem and the FIX. But I expect GM to tell me. Not call me and argue with me over the phone, about why they have closed my fill, stateing The costumer is satisfied. I'am very upset YES. This is ONE of GM's most expensive automobiles, and they have given me and many more like me the impression that they don't care. I'am almost to the point of not ever wanting a GM product ever again.

Moving to the Z06 Tech Forum from the Z06 Mods forum....

THANKS

Thanks again, I have read and still monitor that thead for any additional knowledgeable materal. Like I have said before, I would just like GM to acknowledge what we already know, and stop trying to blow smoke,(were the sun don't shine),I am tired of people trying to give us all anal cancer.

At one point the noise used to upset me.. No longer the case anymore.. When GM is ready with the fix, I'll have my car at the dealer.

It's realy not that big of a deal....

Hello,
I spoke to the executive team last week after reading your tread and received the same response as I did last June. The same-- you know what, I have to reopen a new file and then go through the same process as I did a year ago. I actually told the gentleman that my car was for the road, which it is living in Boston, and he more or less asked why I was bothering asking about a car that is off the road. I truly believe that they really don't care; as I said to him"why not send a letter to the consumer-us and explain what's up". His response was we don't have your vin number and you really shouldn't believe what you read on those web sites. I also told him about the file the NHSA has open on the 2002 zo6 exhaust system he said that doesn't mean anything. I believe I started this tread last year in June or July(I can't remember that far back) and now there are many of us wanting an answer from GM. My discussion ended with him saying" bring it back to the dealer in the spring and we'll try to help out".
Thats what you call real customer non-service!
