I bought a previously owned 2000 coupe (automatic) with 4,000 miles on it in 2001. Primarily when the engine is cold and at slow speeds (10-15 mph) there's a metallic vibration that is very noticable from within the car. The Chevy dealer replaced one muffler but that didn't help and I've lived with it ever since. Now I noticed in a TSB that 97-98 models had a "similar" problem and that the culprit was exhaust muffler insulators. Could this be the problem? Have others experienced the same problem? Thanks in advance, this is my first posting.

Hi there,
There have been some changes in how the mufflers mount up.
Sometimes, loosening all the fasteners on the entire catalytic converter system and mufflers, allowing the system to settle, and retorquing will help.
I would suggest that first.

vibration sound

I experienced the same sound with my 2000 convertible. Tought it might be either the muffler, muffler hanger, or catalytic converter. Baffles in either the converters or mufflers have been known to come loose inside and make a similar sound. However...... upon further inspection while on the dealer's lift, the mechanic discovered that the O 2 sensor on the drivers' side was the culprit. Replaced same and no more need to turn up the radio at slow speeds! Hope this helps.

You might be having the problem addressed in TSB # 99-06-04-029A. I have had this same problem and it's actually the Alt and belt tensioner making the noice. Is it louder when the A/c is on. If it is, check out this TSB! Ron

I had a rattle also, after crawling under the car I found it was the muffler hanger in the rear of the car.
