Can anyone point me to the real reason our exterior door handles stick down? I've gotta slam my door repeatedly to make it latch and it seems to be worse after oiling evrything in sight. I've seen aftermarket springs to put under the push lever but that just doesn't seem right to me. Anybody know?

Steve- you may need to remove your door panel then clean & oil the rods from the bottom of the handle unit , to the latching mechanism.
Once the door panel is removed, there is a plastic cover over the rod (connecting the handle to the latch) that must be removed, by removing 2 screws from the door jam(top). Basically simply- if I can do it, surely you can.
This should remove any resistance from the inside. I used a lithium based spray grease that - so far- has worked really well.

My drivers door handle sticks also, but the door latch works everytime. My problem is different , i.e.- the "flapper" part of the handle is rubbing on the internal side of the handle. Just havent had time to take a Drimmel tool to it to "file" the flapper a mm off.
Hope this helps, Mike J.

Thanx Mike,
Like you my interior handle works perfectly. I can't see why the exterior latch would bind but I'll look at that more closely. Thanx

yeah, I had the same problem. I found that the design of the handles is pretty poor, not to mention a major PIA to get at the handle from inside the door!

I used emery cloth on the part where the "flapper" hangs up .Its just like sand paper and you only have to sand it a bit to get it to move free again.Poor quality from the start. After your finished spray some clear silicone into the area and you should be good to go.

aftermarket springs

Do not invest in those springs they do not work and certainely are not worth the money you pay for them. I used a silicone spray seemed to help a lot.
