BESIDES MY REG FAN TOWARD THE RADIATOR , I HAVE ANOTHER BEHIND IT, IS THIS FOR THE A/C? IT DOES NOT COME ON AT ALL , AND RIGHT NOW MY A/C IS NOT IN SERVICE SO I CAN'T TELL, DO 81'S ALL HAVE THIS AND HOW DOES IT OPERATE?

Thanks Rick

The fan I believe you are refering to in directly behind the radiator?
It provides extra cooling thru the radiator when the engine gets to a certain temp(I forget what it is,225 Degrees or more),If you look on the right side of the engine,on the head, between clyinders 6 and 8 there is a sending unit(similar to the temp sending unit on the left side)It controls when the fan goes on and off.to check if the fan works, find the wires for it on the right side of the vette, and supply them with a hot and a ground and it should come on.

There is also available a switch to by-pass the temperature switch, and I believe that there is a lower-set temperature switch available as well. Checkout Midamerica, Corvette Central, and Ecklers.

WELL MY MECHANIC FOUND A WIRE WAS AT FAULT , ALL FIXED RUNS 210 NOW , TODAY WAS OVER 90 DEGREES AND I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A GOOD HALF HOUR STAYED AT 210 FAR AWAY FROM THE RED ZONE, I'M VERY HAPPY IT WAS ONLY A WIRE AND NOT THE FAN ITSELF!!

IT WAS THE WIRE TO THE FAN , I'M ALL SET NOW , TEMP RUNS NORMAL 210

The wire to the fan comes off a relay which is only energised when the a/c is in use. My 81 ran a little hot during the summer so I wired in a switch to run the fan whether the a/c was on or off.

At least you know how to do that , now my next step is to see if the A/C works or not , right now the clutch does not spin although all the belts are on, i'm going to add cans of refigerant to get the results, it has been converted over to the R4 , so hopefully it will work , if i can get by every summer by adding it then i'm happy!!!
