I thought I would ask, I have a 86 with a factory installed radar detector?. The sensor is laying in the bottom of the front drivers side underneth the front lights. Can't see how this can work since the unit is blocked by the body. And under the dash pad is the corvette emblem detector? Is this factory or what. Thanks

David

I don't think GM would ever want to assume the liability for offering a factory radar detector... not to mention I don't see it in my 86 literature. However, several companies (including K40 and Passport) have offered remote radar detectors. Some are disguised so much that they'll do something like blink the 'door ajar' light for an alert.

But you're saying you see a sensor outside the car under the headlights? Where's the display for it located?

Yes there is a module behind the front fog light laying in the well if you call it. And there is a corvette emblem on the radar detector unit which has a sensor level and another type of sensitivity, this is attached under the dash pad?. I didn't know if this was from the dealer or what? But I can't think it would be effective since the module is in the well behind the body?

No you don't You might have some aftermarket job someone stuck a decal/emblem on and installed kinda like the Valentine can be, but I'm pretty sure GM didn't put it there.
Does it work?
If you can activate, let us know how you like it!
Post some pixs. Sounds interesting. :w

I will take picture in the am and send it, yes it does work powers on with ignition unless I turn it off. It hasn't gone off maybe no rader or like i posted the module is behind the front body clip?

It has the corvette emblem on the unit that is attached under the dash pad. Not trying to get anyone ticked off just curious.

I also have one in my 87, the fellow I bought the car from , said it was a dealer option. I tried using it , gets a lot of false alarms. Mine has double face tape holding it, but its in the same location as yours. I wonder if the unit by the fender can be updated. I may do some research, its probably a K40, Jim.

Not factory.

Maybe it was "dealer installed" however, it was certainly not from the factory.

Me Too

I have one of these too. I have all the original paperwork. I'll take a look at it tonight and report back. My dash is torn apart due to my no run condition ( see Hard start/No start thread) so I will be removing mine. It is pretty obsolete. It powers up but gives all sorts of false alerts.

Went home for lunch and dug up the literature on it. I actually have a warranty card, glossy brochure and installation instructions. It is a model CV-200 radar detector made by a company caled American Antenna. Specially made for Corvettes. Nothing indicating a date of manufacture or install.:) I am still removing it.

Radar Detectors

All I can say about Rador Detectors, is, (Stay out of Canada, they will detect that you have your detector on and conficate/fine you):bash

And it gets worse! In Ontario now, if you get nailed going 150km/hr or more (about 93mph) they take your car for a week, charge you with racing and fine you up to $10,000! And if you live here you are absolutely screwed with your insurance company once that ticket hits their computers! ;help

And yes this applies to American drivers.......a few days after the law came into effect, a US Vette (yes a Vette from Michigan was nailed doing over 200km/hr on the 400 hwy north of T.O.....made the news.

This law applies to all 400 sereies highways. So, if you venture north, always keep it under 90mph for sure unless you are pretty certain the coast is clear.
