loaned my car to a buddy who got a flat , but got her home on the doughnut. bought another tire and went to put it on and ,after talking with my buddy ,we guess he left it on the side of the road . what do i do now .is there a way to get the factory wheel locks off with out the thingy ???????????? help i hate doughtnuts on my car

just take a deep socket a little smaller than the lock.hit on and take off.might have to use metric.no need to panic. good luck

I am assuming that you did not record the lock number; Amcor Wheel Locks makes the locking lug nut tool, so if you don't have the number, then you will have to use other methods to remove them. If you are lucky enough to have the number, then contact them and they will send you a replacement for about $20.
There are threads on the CAC about this, so do a search on C4 wheel locks. I believe that the advice posted in the previously threads is good for removing them.

Go back to the location where your buddy left it and then kick his a55.

get a nut removal tool that you pound over the top of stripped nuts.
Smack that sucker on there twist that lock off and throw it far far away. While your at it throw the rest of them away too!

My Dad and uncle both own tire centers and I've changed many, many (too many) tires in my life.

Those locks stink and are more likely to leave you sitting on the side of the road than keep someone from stealing your vette wheels.

The bad guys have the locks too, (or else they just smack them with a nut removal tool as I decribed to you earlier). The worst case is they remove 4 lugs and then snap off the remaining stud using a
big prybar, WITH the lock still on it. :mad

Those locks are just an illusion of security.;squint:

They serve no purpsose except to strip out or break when your 500 miles from no where.

Throw them away. If a bad guy wants your wheels, he's going to get them. That lock wont stop anybody.

A .357 is the only way to stop a tire thief.

I can't count the number of times people came in asking my Dad to remove them after the lock broke. :bash

put real lug nuts on it and be done with it.:thumb:thumb
Just my opinion.

I did the same. Could not agree more. With the proliferation of some rims costing more than the Vette itself you are far more likely to have someone steal your gas than the wheels.

thanx for the advise , i have allready thrown them away on my other zr1 , just hadnt gotten around to get rid of these yet . couldnt agree more on the thief deal if they want them a fing lock isnt going to stop them. i am a believer I HATE WHEEL LOCKS:w

Wow, I never thought of it this way. I was going to buy locks for my wheels but you saved me the expense!

My 87 has a sticker on the glove box lid right by the service parts list with the wheel lock number on it.
Like everyone else said ditch them. Just one more tidbit..
When I started looking at the other lugs on my nearly 20 year old vett the threads were nearly gone from all the times they had been on and off. So I chunked all of them and got 20 instead of 4 for just a little more than a 12 pack.
