Fan Clutch Question

I HAVE A 1966 ROADSTER WITH 327/300 ORIGINAL MOTOR. IT CONSISTENTLY GETS A LITTLE HOT (200-220) IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC BUT COOLS DOWN SOME AS I GO FASTER OR GET ON THE FREEWAY. I'M SURE OF THE TEMP GAUGE AS I HAVE TESTED THE THERM HOUSING WITH AN IR GUN. IT HAS BEEN MENTIONED TO ME THAT THERE MAY BE A FAN CLUTCH PROBLEM. IS THERE ANY WAY TO TEST THIS WITHOUT BUYING SOME SORT OF ELIMINATOR THAT MAKES THE FAN CONSTANTLY "IN GEAR"? THANKS!!

Was having the same problem last summer, asked around at the local parts suppliers and mechanic shops but nobody seemed to know how to go about it. Heard theyre bad if they leak or make much noise but not much else. Ended up buying a replacement from car quest, once I get it on the road to test it Ill find out if this was the problem. Good luck, it can be pretty frustrating trying to find the problem.

Fan Clutch Testing

I Have Just Heard From Others That After The Car Warms Up And /or Gets Too Warm, Turn It Off And See How Many Times The Fan Turns---3 To 5 Times Should Be The Max Or Clutch Unit May Be Suspect. I'm Going To Try This. You Might Also And Let's Compare Results.
