I know a little about body work... but next to nothing about fiberglass repair. I need some EXPERT opinions.

My problem is...

There's about a 5 or 6 inch piece of fiberglass missing from the hood, on the right side of the right headlight. So basically I dont have anything there to hold the headlight in and I dont have the pieces that were broken out either.

My question is...

Would it be cost effective for me to take this somewhere to be repaired or would I be better off just finding another hood?

I'm finding used hoods in the 400-600 dollar range (decent ones) and I'm thinking that its probably gonna cost more than that to repair the one that I have... Would that be a correct assumption? I just know I'm gonna PAY if I want it done right.

Anyone? :confused ;help

You would be better off to have it fixed. If you buy a used hood you will still have to have it painted. You could try to do the glass work yourself and save alittle. If you want to post some pics Ill try to help ya the best I can. :beer

See... thats the thing... Ive never done any type of fiberglass repair and I'm a little worried about screwing it up. I want it to look perfect... ya know?

I mean, I would have to basically re-make the peice of the hood that is gone and its pretty much the whole right hand front corner of the hood (about a 6" X 4" piece). Not to mention the inside of the hood with all of the contours and stuff...It appears to me that this is no job for a rookie.

I've painted two cars before and they came out sweet... so the painting part isnt the problem. I'll handle that. I just would like to get a rough idea as to how much a repair like this might cost me.

I realize im not giving you guys too much to go on with no pictures. But if there are any pro's out there that could give me some idea (any idea) as to how much something like this might cost me PLEASE tell me soon! I wanna get this thing back out on the road.

If your going to paint it yourself then I would just buy a used hood.I see your going to paint the whole car black anyway. If I was going to take a guess I would say the price of the repair and repainting the hood and the bumper(to match)Would cost as much as a used hood. :w

Thats what I'm thinking too... thanks for the reply bro.

:beer To a successful restoration!
