Hey I saw some people saying that bondo (polyester resin) is not a good idea on fiberglass. I don't know if I agree with that but if so what is the preferred method for very small repairs? All resin instructions talk about using fiberglass cloth, but in the case of very small repairs this wouldn't be feasible. Just use it like Bondo but w/o cloth? This works?

It all depends on the type of repair. Resin has no strength without fiberglass reinforcement. If the panels structural integrity has been damaged then fiberglass will be needed to repair it properly. If it is just some cosmetic damage then body filler will do the job.

Bondo makes two types, One is just a fill type and is good for smoothing thing out. Then they have another that has fibers mixed in and is for small repairs. Both can also be used with matting cloth.

Another product is Marine-tex. This is designed for use on boats and other fiberglass. It is great for small fillings, bonding and I have used it to glue split/ cracks and the sort together. I then use some matting cloth and the back side for reinforcement.

Hope this helps in some way. Without knowing what it is you are trying to fix and where I can say what to use. Cracks and breaks you will need to use either a matt and cloth material for fixing the damage and then you can smooth it out with the Bondo or Marine-tex.

You guys are correct. For major structural repairs you need to use the resin /cloth method.,major cosmetic ,you shold use kitty hair, which is basically resin premixed with fiberglass strands.Anything other than a hole you can just use common body filler.
